Round 2 Preview

Round 1 has been completed and the leaders of the pack have been established. The question yet to be answered is, ‘Will they be able to withstand the pressure of leading’?

A Grade has Steve Rippon in the lead as expected but he is playing with injury. Not that it seemed to affect him, as he lipped out for a new course record on the 18th last Saturday. Mark Cassel seems the best situated if Steve falls over due to injury.

You must remember that there is a nett section as well so Ken Bradley, Tony Rodriguez, Greg Seymour, Wayne Arnott and Mark are all well in the hunt for this prize.

B Grade is led by Brian Underwood after his fine 77 last Saturday. Close challengers are Andrew Attard on 79, Peter Francis, Greg Rodgers and Alan Jones all on 80, Doug Perry on 82 and with defending champion Tom Zimmermann on 83 along with Shane Townsend. As you can see it is still very close even after Brian’s great round last Saturday and I would not be surprised if somebody else lower in the pack played a great round this Saturday to bring themselves into contention.

The nett in B grade is also very close with all the above under nett par also with Jim Henry on nett 67 and club president Phil Hahn on 68. The gross winner cannot win more than one prize so this prize could be decided on the last hole of the event.

C Grade has the redoubtable Phil Lewis in the lead. Phil has been seen on the course lately having lessons and working on his game. It certainly came together last Saturday where he fired an incredible 84 off the stick. Not to be outdone, Gary Eagleton and Ron Hewson also fired 84’s, so it will be interesting to see who can repeat their heroics this Saturday. Bill Little and Peter Hughes are also close after 86’s so they cannot be ruled out either. Several other players are close as well so it should be exciting.

The Nett event in C Grade is also close with John Childs, David Connon and Alvin Ray added to the above  in close proximity to the lead. Several others under nett 70 are also in good shape.

The lead in D Grade is shared by defending champion Les Farkas and Norbert Beringer after both fired a first round 90. Geoff Boxsell and Bob Weir are close, only a few shots behind.

The nett lead is shared by Norbert, Les and Geoff with 63. Bob Weir and Charlie Struck are both close as well.

Don’t forget that there is a daily event each round for those who can’t get the consistency needed to contend in the championship.

Good luck next Saturday.
