2017 Mixed Foursomes Championship

Proud champions Elizabeth Armstrong and Arthur Bosanquet hold the trophy

A small field of 14 golfers gathered at the course today to play the Mixed Foursomes Championship.

What the field lacked in numbers it certainly made up for in quality.

Before the round it was difficult to select the winners with all groups in with a good chance. McGlinchey/Rippon were the low markers, Farrant/Paris the defending champions, Brennan/Byers past winners, Armstrong/Bosanquet always among the leaders, Walsh/Panecasio both in form, the Van Woerkoms an experienced team, and Gregson/Fredericks the long shots but with a good combination.

Apparently some wag phoned Shirley in the morning making sure that she and Tony were aware of the format for the day! No repeat of the Canadian this time!!

As the day progressed it became apparent that this was to be a special event with scoring very close.

In a very tight contest three teams finished the 27 holes with a score of 129. Using the Australian Countback System to separate the teams, the winners were Elizabeth Armstrong and Arthur Bosanquet (last nine 41), second place, Shirley Walsh and Tony Panecasio (last nine 43, last six 29, and last three 16), third place, Kay Brennan and Bruce Byers (last nine 43, last six 29, last three 17).

Marie Farrant and Pat Paris played very well in defence of their title but stumbled over the last few holes to narrowly miss the countback. Linda McGlinchey and Steve Rippon played well in patches but a poor start saw them playing ‘catch-up’ all day.

April and Colin Van Woerkom tried hard but did not fire, while Robyn Gregson and Lance Fredericks also played well and were very close to winning the nett title.

With Liz and Arthur winning the gross championship, the nett winners were Shirley and Tony with an excellent nett score of 105. Each of these teams received club vouchers of the same value and we hope that this will encourage more teams to enter next year.

Balls went to Kay and Bruce and to Marie and Pat. Nett 109.75 or better was needed in the ball comp.

All competitors enjoyed this important club day and were pleased to share a pleasant day with their fellow club members and friends.

Congratulations to our winners Liz and Arthur, Shirley and Tony.
