Jamberoo B Pennants travelled to rain soaked Gerringong to take on the Grange. Pat Paris led off and was in control in tough conditions to win 2/1. John Paul at number 4 had a back and forth match with only 2 holes halved in the first 12. In the end it came down to the last where he went down. Anthony Smith came up against a dead eye putter who found the wet greens to his liking eventually going down 4/3. Jarrod Gehrmann fought hard all the way to secure a vital second point with a 1up win. And finally despite being 4 down Adrian Bell took the match to 18 before going down on the last. A 3-2 loss however our superior games for and against record will see us into the semis.

White Horse Cup “A” team vs Vincentia @ Russell Vale

The players teed off under threatening skies and everyone, with the exception of Johnny Bermudez, were struggling on the slick greens of Russell Vale. The rain the night before did not slow them down at all. Johnny was superb today after having a week off. He hit the ball superbly all day against the Vincentia captain and his consistency from tee to green was demoralising for his opponent. It was no surprise to see Johnny take the match 5 and 4. His crisp 5 iron to the 170 meter 9th hole to within two meters was an absolute stand out.
Things were not going so well elsewhere. At the seventh hole both Greg Seymour and Greg Tarrant trailed by two and Bryan Nicoll had to sink a 40 foot bomb on the 7th just to remain 1 down. The standout performer from the last few weeks, Gary Harvey was 3 down and Phil Gosling was also one down. So, with the exception of Johnny everyone was behind. But as they say, when the going gets tough…. Within the next three holes, Greg Seymour had lifted his game to fight back to be even, but last week’s hero, Greg Tarrant who was suffering a bad back was struggling against an opponent who was making few mistakes and by the 13th Greg was 3 down.
Gary Harvey’s opponent would not surrender easily and sunk three putts in excess of 20 feet leaving Gary with 5 and 6 footers just to square the holes. But he finally found some of his form from previous weeks and over a stretch of ten holes, from the 8th to the 17th, he won six of the holes to totally dominate the match and eventually run out a winner by 3 and 1. It was a magnificent fightback from Gary. Phil was trying to draw some inspiration from Gary (games were played in fours today), but every time he looked like getting a hole back, his opponent would pull a rabbit out of the hat by chipping to within 30cm. Phil held in there deep into the back nine before the Vincentia man reeled off two holes in a row to claim a close match.
Bryan Nicoll who had struggled all day was still one down coming to the par 5, 16th and was a chance to win the hole but his long hitting opponent was having none of it and they squared the hole. But on the 17th, Vincentia left his tee shot short and left in the rough and found it too difficult to manage and left his approach short still in the rough. He left his third shot about 3 meters short of the pin. Meanwhile Bryan’s chip hit the edge of the green and stopped dead. It was the only shot to do that all day, and his putt just lipped the hole but ran about a meter or so past the hole. The Vincentia man missed his putt and Bryan conceded his putt to give him a 5. But he inexplicably picked up Bryan’s marker and conceded the hole for Bryan to get back to square with only the 18th hole to go. Both players hit good drives but with the two Gregs playing the par 5 things were starting to tighten up. Greg Tarrant was still three down and Greg Seymour had finally hit the front to be one up.
I watched the two Vincentia men hit huge drives past our guys. Both Gregs were too far away to go for the green over the water hazard so they both laid up to the right. Their two opponents were made of sterner stuff and saw their opportunity to ram home an advantage and they both went for it but they both paid a heavy price when they both found the water. So Greg Seymour was now dormie two and Greg Tarrant had got it back to two down, but on the 17th his opponent played a beautiful stroke to the centre of the green and although Greg got up and down from the side, he went down 2 and 1. Greg Seymour on the other hand saw an opportunity and took it with his opponent struggling and took the match 3 and 1. This was a tremendous effort from Greg who was, as I mentioned earlier, two down after seven.
So, we were sitting at 3 games to 2 with Bryan playing the 18th. We all raced down the 18th fairway but he was not on the green and we could not see him anywhere. It wasn’t until I got to the clubhouse that I spotted Bryan with a big grin on his face. He had hit his second shot on 18 to about 15cm absolutely demoralising his opponent who had given him an extremely generous concession on the previous hole. Bryan said he didn’t even need to make the putt. It was another extraordinary match characterised by gritty determination and our never say die attitude. We had made the comeback of the season to steal the match 4 to 2.
What a day, what a result, what a team!
Next week we play Bowral at Bowral (7.30 tee off) so we will need to be at our best with the Links trailing us by just one point, so we can’t afford any slip ups in the final round.

Jamberoo 3.5 defeated Bowral 2.5
A Great Win over the Bowral Pensioners.
Concession Cards were not accepted as the Cowpats swept to a 3.5/2.5 win. Some of the Highlights.
Brian our Motivational Inspiration was injured while patting a Kangaroo and hopped around the course in significant pain while maintaining the Cowpat Spirit.
Scotty also picked up Kangaroo Fever towards the end and Vince is seeking an antidote for next week.
Matt was hitting the ball so far that his opponent needed new prescription glasses to follow the flight of the ball.
Bunkers played his usual diplomatic game to steady the middle order.
Steve’s new coach attended with Steve inspired to sink 80 metre putts over the last 5 holes to place pressure on his opponent.
Shane’s cat and mouse game with his younger opponent had the Roo’s impressed.
Champs we move on to the Last round at Bowral and again a must win to assure a Semi Final Spot.

C Pennant vs Kiama @ Kiama

Sharks take mauling at Kiama
With the ‘Town & Country’ Cup to be determined the C Pennant Sharks were soundly beaten in their match against Kiama losing the Cup 5.5 matches to 4.5 after the home and away series.
The home team certainly used their local knowledge to great effect winning 3 of the 5 matches convincingly and another one on the 18th.
The only bright light was the form of Andrew Ball who played extremely well to win 5/4. Andrew again showed great ball striking ability and a solid putting stroke to close out his match early.
Tony McRae also played well showing great tenacity to come back from 3 down early to go to the lead 3 up after 12 holes. His short game was very impressive, even wowing ex-Jamberoo junior (and now professional golfer) Jordan Widdicombe who witnessed some of Tony’s wizardry. The Kiama player slowly eroded the lead and at the 18th tee the match was all square. The Kiama player hit a great drive, bending it around the corner to set up an easy approach to the green. Tony hit his drive superbly as well but it did not draw and went through the fairway behind some trees. Tony extricated his ball from the trees but found the green-side bunker with his third. Meanwhile the Kiama player also found the same bunker. Both exploded out well and Tony was left with a lengthy putt to square the match. Well struck, the putt hit the back of the hole only to jump out and leave Kiama with the win.
Chris and Dave had days they would rather forget losing 5/4 and 5/3 respectively both being outplayed and left pondering the vagaries of the Kiama greens/billiard tables. Tim also suffered a loss 3/1 against the Kiama number 1 keeping it square for much of the match only to succumb at the end against a Kiama putting onslaught.
The Sharks need a halved match or a win to cement their place in the semi-finals with 2 rounds remaining.
