2022 Trevor Bell Memorial Shield

On Monday last the only round of the 2022 TBMS was played at Kiama in clear but breezy conditions. You will recall that 2022 has been a dreadful year for wet weather with course closures necessitating just a single round to be played to decide the 2022 winner.

Kiama could be seen to have a home ground advantage and indeed this did eventuate with Kiama winning the shield for this year. Jamberoo narrowly missed out running a close third.

Lets hope 2023 is kinder weatherwise with all seven rounds being completed.

Full results for Monday, with every club represented by a full team of 8 with 6 best scores counting:

Kiama196
Port Kembla190
Jamberoo188
The Grange183
The Links Shell Cove181
Wollongong168
The Vale161
Trevor Bell Memorial Shield Results at Kiama 31-10-22

Jamberoo was represented by :

Col Booth, Don Thompson, Ron Chilby, Geoff Reynolds, Peter Francis, Wayne Arnott, Phil Gosling, Mal Hoy.

News from the Course @ Jamberoo

Its all happening at Jamberoo this Saturday!

Gold Medal Playoffs.

This Saturday the winners of the monthly medals in each grade from November 2021 to October 2022 have the chance to win the Gold Medal. These special awards are among the most prestigious to be won at the club.

As we are all aware there was quite a disruption to play on the course this year due to course closure. Monthly medals were not contested in March, April and October so a smaller field than usual will contest the playoffs. Check to see if you have qualified.

The rest of the membership who play on Saturday play for the November monthly medal, the first of the new season.

Jim’s Shed is GUR

The area near Jim’s Shed defined by the white stakes is a temporary GUR while the Shed is removed. If your ball finishes within this area then please take a free drop at the nearest point outside this area.

Golden Putter Playoff

The mens golden putter playoff will be held in conjunction with the Gold Medal on Saturday. Don’t forget to record the number of putts you take on your card.

Women’s Gold Medal Playoff

In a multi-event day next Tuesday 3 major trophies will be contested. Firstly the November Monthly Medal (the first for the new season) will be held. In conjunction with this the Gold Medal Playoffs will also be held. Thirdly the Women’s Veterans Championship first round will also be contested. The second round will be played on Thrsday 10th.

Please contact Women’s Captain, Judi O’Brien, to find out if you are in the playoffs.

2022 Mens Eclectic.

Here is a contest that has slipped under the radar with all the excitement around the place. All Mens results from the beginning of August till the end of play this Saturday have been kept and after the completion of this Saturday’s round the 2022 Eclectic champion will be declared. The Eclectic is a special contest where your best score on every hole in the time period is recorded and then summed at the conclusion to give an 18 hole score. Your final handicap is deducted and the winner is then declared.

Here are the top players in contention in order: Jake Willougby, Chris Leckey, Arthur Bosanquet, Daniel Adams, Peter Francis, Alan Jones, Matt Tedeschi, Tim Ashby, Wayne Griffiths, Brad Rimmer, Bob Neilson, Ron Chilby, Rod Poidevin and Greg Quigg. The provisional best nett score is 50 and the best gross score is 58.

Saturday is the last chance to improve on your score. Good luck.

Another Ace Recorded @ Jamberoo

Congratulations to Don Thompson who recorded an ace today on the 13th hole.

This was Don’s first hole-in-one and he used an 8 iron to cover the 125 metres to the hole.

His playing partners were overheard saying, “I think it went in!”, and so it proved to be.

As a memento of his perfect shot Don will have his ball mounted onto a trophy, receive 6 balls from the club and have his name entered onto the hole-in-one Honour Board.

Don will also receive from GolfNSW and St Hallett’s Wines a lovely bottle of St Hallett’s finest red wine, and a special hole-in-one cap.

Congratulations Don.

Ducks Seek New ‘Web’ Address

A Family of Ducks were spotted today moving to their new nome near the 16th green.

We have their ‘web address’, perhaps we can get yours.

It is very frustrating when we need to contact you and we find we have an old email address or indeed no email address.

Can you all please check and see if the club has your latest email address? [We have strict data handling procedures and do not share member details to third parties – see our privacy policy]

Course Returned to Play

How dry was the course today? Many of us were pleasantly surpised by its condition with only a few wet patches in areas that the ball doesn’t often finish and new water features on the 12th and 14th holes!

The greens were fast but ran smoothly.

From Monday we will play 30 cm preferred lies in the general areas of the course (fairways and rough). This will allow you to lift, clean and prefer your ball.

If your ball finishes in a wet area then you may first move your ball out of the wet area before taking your preferred lie.

Gold Medal Playoff

Next Saturday the Gold Medal Playoff will be conducted. For those who don’t know the 12 monthly medal winners in each grade from the last 12 months playoff for the GOLD MEDAL. The Golden Putter playoff will also be held.

See the list below to confirm if you are involved. The rest of us play for the November monthly medal which is the first for the new season.

Course Open for Play

Friday 28 October, 1pm

The good news is that the course has been re-opened for play ( from Saturday) with carts available for member use.

The mode of play is “optional tee up through the green” but I have been informed that the currently blowing wind is drying out the course remarkably.

Regretably the Foursomes on Saturday and the Mens Open on Sunday remain postponed to a date to determined.

On Saturday a medley stableford will be played.

While playing check out the apparently permanent new ‘water feature’ on the 12th.
