2nd March 2015 Competition
You might remember how pleased I was last month at the excellent number of starters we had for our first comp of the month, well it was back to reality in March with only 62 starters teeing off on a beautiful Jamberoo morning. And yes I know…..all Jamberoo mornings are beautiful! We had two grades today and the winners were:

16th March 2015 Competition
It was another small turnout today, but that should make it easier to win…shouldn’t it? Well not in my case, but on another beautiful day out some of us went extremely well. There was only one division today and the prize winners were:
1st George Wells 41 Pts
2nd Arthur Holmes 36 Pts

Vets Week of Golf Thursday 19 February 2015
You may recall that last month I only reported the place getters at Jamberoo during the Vets Week of Golf, however, I should have looked at the entire list of results because it has been brought to my attention that Di Morosin not only won her division at the Wollongong Club on the Tuesday but also won the NSWVGA Ladies Shield for the entire competition for the week. Well Done Di.

2nd February 2015 Competition
I don’t know whether it was because the kids had gone back to school but we had an exceptional turnout for today’s competition with a field of 92 starters, including 32 visitors. Maybe it was all the extra NTPs we put on, but whatever the reason, I hope the attendance continues to increase in the coming months. The conditions were fine with a slight breeze and the winners were:

Division 1 1st Peter Waterman (RV) 40 Pts 2nd Jeff Draper 39 Pts 3rd Gary Eagleton 38 Pts
Division 2 1st P Schumacher (TG) 38 Pts 2nd Phil Gosling 37 Pts(c/b) 3rd John Mc Kenna(SL) 37Pts

16th February 2015 Competition
It was only a small turnout of 37 players for today’s competition and I was lucky enough to be paired with Larry Kent and John Hol. Both John and myself played pretty good golf but it was Larry who was just burning up the course. He must have had 5 or 6 one putt greens on the front nine, including a couple of 20 footers!
There was only one division today and the prize winners were:
1st Larry Kent 42 Pts
2nd G Behan (TG) 37 Pts (c/b)
3rd Ray Pearson 37 Pts

5 January 2015 Competition

There was an excellent turn up for the first event of the year despite rainy conditions at the commencement of the day. We had 60 starters which meant two grades and only two prizes in each grade. There was some more bad news involving a mix up with the NTPs which were not put out. Although the oversight was recognised early, it was unfortunately too late to rectify the problem because of the number of players who had already played the NTP holes. To make up for the oversight it was decided to award an extra prize in each grade.

I would like to apologise to all players for the oversight.

The winners for this comp were:

Division 1                                                          Division 2
1st Tony Rodriguez 41 Pts                                  Theo Schmeider 41 Pts
2nd R Williams (Wollongong) 39 Pts              Phil Lewis 40 Pts
3rd John Chapman 38 Pts                                 Les Waters 38 Pts

Balls to 35 Pts

19 January 2015 Competition

I woke at about 4.00am to the sound of rain and thought that golf might be a bit doubtful today and I could possibly get to have a sleep in. I dosed for the next few hours but could still hear the rain tumbling down. When I finally arose I could see it was still sprinkling but thought, I’m not in Jamberoo so I won’t know the conditions until I get out there. Even as I walked the dogs, I got caught in the occasional sprinkle but thought I would still turn up because I was playing with the German boys, Karl, Ewald and Theo, and rain doesn’t often deter them.

I headed off to the course with rain still falling, but then I hit Swamp Road and guess what? The clouds started to clear, the road was dry and I had to fumble around to put on my sunglasses. I arrived at the course a bit before 9.00 and found that there had been no overnight rain, the course was dry and the conditions were warm with a gentle breeze – absolutely perfect for a round of golf. I hopped out of my car just in time to see Karl and the boys walking off the 1st tee – I had been dumped! Perhaps Rod (our Monday Starter) had other plans for me.

I walked into the Golf Shop and was greeted by Rod in his not so broad Mancunian accent “not many starters today Christopher”. (NOTE FOR ROD: only my mum called me Christopher and then only when I was in trouble!). Luckily Rod had reserved a spot for me in the final group with our regular visitors from The Grange and Russell Vale, and we all had a very enjoyable day. In fact everyone I spoke to while I was on the course remarked how good the day was and how glad they were that they decided to turn up.

There were 38 lucky players who teed off, but unfortunately that was only enough for one grade today, but at least we did get the NTPs out this time!

The prize winners were:

1st      Jeff Draper
2nd   John Childs
3rd   Paul O’Leary

Nearest the Pin: 3rd  Peter Waterman (RV) 305cm
                                 9th   Dennis Perrin (SL) 156cm
Drive & Pitch      8th   Jeff Draper 199cm
Supershot            7th   Jeff Draper 120cm

Balls to 37

It was a particularly good day for Jeff Draper who not only placed first in the comp but also won two NTPs including the Supershot. Well done Jeff.

December Competition
Our first competition this month will be on Monday 1st December and will be a normal competition. Our Christmas competition day this year will be held on Monday 15th December simply because it is closer to Christmas. It will be a shotgun start and will be followed by a free sausage sizzle.

We recently received an anonymous donation of money to the Vets and it has been decided to apply the entirety of the donation to prizes for our final day of competition this year. We will have three grades on the day, regardless of the number of competitors, and there will be a first prize of a half ham in each grade. Please note that the hams can only be won by financial members of Jamberoo Vets. Visitors will be entitled to win the usual monetary prizes, but the hams will be for Jamberoo members only.

I will ensure there is an up to date list of financial members available on the day, so to be eligible to win any prizes please check the list before you tee off to ensure you are a current financial member to avoid any disappointment.

Uralla Week of Golf
I have received some nomination forms from the UGC for their week of golf from the 7th to the 10th April 2015. The forms will be placed in the folder in the Golfers Lounge.
