Jamberoo players perform well at the Grange

Winners are Grinners“.

Our Jamberoo Women travelled up the road to The Grange today and were warmly welcomed to their annual  ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ Charity Day. Although only 9 holes were in play today it was great to support one of our local clubs who have also struggled in the latest rain events.

Low and behold three of the Jamberoo players took out the big prize. First overall Nett winners.

Congratulations to Rhonda McKinley, Rose Sheath, Lorraine Southwell and Denise Clune (The Links).

News from the Course

Dulcie Piper celebrates her 89th birthday with her friends at the club.

A great day at the club today for long standing member Dulcie Piper who celebrated being 89 years young with 18 holes of golf in today’s competition with her friends at the club.

Many of Dulcie’s friends, and husband Ray, turned up after golf for the birthday bash with a joyous chorus of “Happy Birthday” ringing out from the club.

A good time was had by all celebrating Dulcie’s important milestone.

Dulcie feels that this will be her last game of golf but I am sure that we will see her every Tuesday and the monthly Vets day for the après golf luncheons.

Many happy returns Dulcie.

Trevor Bell team remains in contention

At the Trevor Bell Shield round held at Kiama GC on Monday June 17 Jamberoo finished in third place with 188 points – behind Links S C on 196 and Port Kembla on 189 points. Jamberoo still sits in 2nd place behind Links S C with a difference of 40 points, 9 points ahead of Port Kembla and 17 points ahead of Kiama.

In the individual competition Craig Foster came second on a C/B with 37 points and Warren Joannou collected a ball with 34 points.

It will be tough making up the 40 point difference but it can be done. Next round is at Jamberoo on 11 July.

Course to Re-Open Thursday

Yesterday’s wind has worked wonders and dried most of the surface water.

I have just been informed that the course will re-open Thursday with all 18 holes in play and motorised carts available.

30cm preferred lies in the general sections of the course (fairways and rough).

When playing the 6th hole please cross Hyams Creek using the bridge on the 8th hole. Be very aware of tee shots from the 8th.

Be part of the Jamberoo Spirit.

By Col Booth.

At the heart of the community we serve, Jamberoo Golf Club is a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive club serving the interests and needs of its members and of the Jamberoo community.

Jamberoo Golf Club is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers and embraces its village golf heritage. A rare find today!

Enjoy the views from the shaded verandah where visitors, local residents and members are astounded by the picturesque visage as they enjoy a chat and a refreshing drink.

Get involved, enjoy the company of your fellow members, and support your club. These are all aspects of the Jamberoo spirit.

I am often amused after playing an enjoyable 18 holes, and finding your partners’ balls several times, many members leave immediately, even if they do drink, missing an opportunity to sit and relax with your team on the day.  Surely 15 minutes after your game isn’t too much extra time. No reason to get into a ‘shout’.

A lot of people think if you venture onto the verandah you have to drink alcohol.

The Verandah is for socialising with other club members, getting to know new members etc.

The loss of the Bridge over Hyams Creek on the 6th.

We will have to divert around the ‘immovable obstruction’, but this is not big a deal. I agree bridges will have to be higher and perhaps renamed after the bridges in Venice along the Grand Canal, ie. Rialto, to add to the joy of playing Jamberoo with its heritage theme.
