December Greetings

The Directors and Staff of Jamberoo Golf Club wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Joyful New Year.

Hams Days Aplenty

With the festive season upon us we at Jamberoo celebrate with the playing of Hams Days.

Already the Women and Champagne 9 Groups have awarded Hams to the winners of their special comps.

Tomorrow the Women Veterans have their turn followed by their Xmas celebration.

Saturday is the Mens turn with Hams to be awarded for the winner in each grade and boneless hams for the runners up [collection day is next Tuesday at 11 am].

Finally the Monday Veterans celebrate with their Xmas BBQ and Hams Day on Monday 18th. A shotgun start will be played at 8 am. The Barry Walker Shield will be presented after golf on this day.

2023 Awards Ceremonies

Womens Christmas Fun Day and 2023 PRESENTATION will be held on Tuesday 12th.

The 2023 Mens Presentation will be held after the Memorial Day 4 Person Ambrose which will be held on January 27. A shotgun start will be played on this day.

Jamberoo Member Trophy Accounts

Jamberoo Members can use the balance of their trophy accounts in several different ways.

The most popular way is to save it up and use it to reduce the amount payable for the 2024-25 membership fees.

Others use it to buy items in our golf shop.

Others use it to pay for cart hire or competition fees.

Quite a few donate it to the club.

As from Monday December 11 a new option is open. Provided you spend at least $100 from your account then a voucher can be given for use at Drummond Golf Shellharbour. This will allow you to purchase those more expensive items that our small club cannot afford to have at stock.

VETERANS NEWS

Seaside and Valley Vets Tournament 2023

This was the final Veterans tournament for the year and was shared between Kiama Golf Club and Jamberoo Golf Club. The tournament has been running for well over twenty years and initially was held as two separate two day tournaments before coming together as a four day event.

The first three days were single stablefords with daily 18 hole competitions and a 54 hole aggregate event over the three days. The NSWVGA also gave prizes for a 36 hole event over Monday and Tuesday. Both aggregate events were across the fields and the daily events were held in two divisions for both men and women.

After the rain on Tuesday night caused flooding at Jamberoo and closure of the course, the scheduled Friday fourball had to be cancelled. I have not found anyone who remembers a cancellation of a days play happening previously in this tournament.

A total of 139 players from 42 clubs registered for the event with not all players nominating for every day. Jamberoo was well represented and achieved success.

Jamberoo prize winners were:

54 Hole – Men                        Peter Francis               Winner

54 Hole – Women                   Pam Middlebrook        3rd place

Daily 18 holes

Monday – Men Division 2      Peter Garland              Winner

                                                Rob McLean               2nd place

                                                Col Booth                    3rd place

Women Division 1      Kelley Greaves           2nd place

Women Division 2      Cheryl Smee               2nd place

Tuesday – Men Division 1      Peter Hackett               3rd place

Division 2    Warren Joannou          3rd place

Thursday – Men Division 2    Jim Robb                     3rd place

Women Division 2      Lorraine Southwell     2nd place.

The tournament will be held again next year in the last week of November but with a new Tournament Director, Geoff Lynch from Kiama GC, as Bob Smith is standing down after 11 years in the job.

Tuesday Competition

The full course will be playable for the Women’s Competition on Tuesday. Carts will be allowed.

The Women’s match committee will determine if bunkers are GUR or in play before play commences.

The competition of the day will be stroke for the December Monthly Medal. A stableford event will be held in conjunction.

Enjoy the day.

News from the Course

Monday Veterans Competition.

I have just been informed that the course will be open on Monday with carts allowed.

Unfortunately the greenstaff still need more time to finish cleaning up the debris on the back nine and so the Monday Vets comp will be to play a stableford over the front nine, doing so twice to make 18 holes.

Many mistakes were made last Saturday in scoring the stableford points on the second nine so to avoid this you are requested to please not put the stableford points down on the second nine. Just mark the strokes you have taken on each hole. The Match Committee will work out the stableford scores and the final total.

Depending on the weather it is expected that the full 18 holes will be available from Tuesday.

Course cleanup

Volunteers show true club spirit.

A big thankyou to all of our volunteers who helped clean up the course.

There were 16 members who volunteered their time and energy Friday and 4 on Thursday to help clean-up the course.

This effort, and the hard work of the Green Staff, has helped to open the front nine for Saturday.
