B Pennant v Gerringong @ Port Kembla

The B pennants travelled to Port Kembla to take on Gerringong. It was a must win game for the opposition and we needed to be on our guard even though we were favourites. Pat Paris led off playing against a golfer 44 years his junior. But despite giving away metres off the tee, experience told with Pat securing the first point of the day with a 3/2 win.
After his smashing win last week Pete Munro went out at 4 much to the disbelief of the opposition. Pete continued his fine form with a controlled 4/3 win. Pete’s pennant form has been outstanding. TP at number 3 had a close tussle being one down after 12 but surged home to win the next 4 holes in a row for a 3/2 win.
Jarrod G, fresh back from a Qld sojourn, produced a dominant display beating his lower handicapped rival 3/1. His knack of playing the crucial shots well ensured the comfortable win. Number 1 Adrian Bell was involved in a real dogfight also being one down early on the back nine. But with ‘Fluff’ Orr, the super caddy, in his corner he also came home strong to record a 3/1 win over his highly fancied opponent.
So 5-0 to the Roo. We remain undefeated and now face The Grange next week to cement our finals spot. Again the team spirit was evident with all players in attendance. Assisting with caddying and team support. Although none have offered to caddy for TP as yet. Wonder why???

WHC ‘Cowpats’ v Port Kembla @ The Links Shell Cove

WHC Champs outstanding comeback to achieve a 3/3 win over Port ………………………. Sien Metu
All Games see sawed throughout the day with all teams now on big bucks to beat the Cowpats of Jamberoo where Soccer is better known than Golf.
Matt and the Saint were one up for most of their games until basic errors cost us points at a crucial time.
Brian was disappointing early on as word soon came back that he had lost the first hole and was seeking inspiration.
Thank Heavens Vice-Captain Shane took charge and reminded him of the standards he has set for all of us to follow, Brian then went on to birdie the next three holes shattering his opponent’s confidence and was back in the club house after 11 holes looking for the food and drinks voucher.
Steve who caddied for Brian stated he had not seen such flawless Golf since Peter Senior won the Australian Masters.
Scott had Mark’s champion caddie and lucky charm, Vince Byrnes, under a more attractive contract arrangement, and they have formed a formidable team with immediate results. Scott showed the poise around the greens which was not evident last week with Vince’s keen eye making all the difference.
Mr Consistency Peter [better known as Bunkers] put in another challenging display to ensure the Cowpats stayed on top, of their division.
We were fortunate enough to have Pam back and looking after Shane who is a different player with Pam on his bag, like Peter, hung in to ensure the Cowpats maintained first place in our Division. Thanks Pam and well done Shane.
Bowral is the team we play at St George’s Basin and it is a must win as Bowral are on equal points with a game to go after this.
All of our team are now eligible to play in the finals so let’s ensure in true Cowpat style we maintain the rage to be there with ‘Three in a Row’ now possible and practical as we have become battle hardened in preparation for the remaining challenges.
Cowpats are still the Bookies Favourite to win three in a row!

Hole in ones are hard to come by and especially in an important event like Pennants. Tim Young fired his 6 iron onto the green and it spun back into the hole. It was a typical “never give up” effort which spurred his team mates on to win the day 3/2.
Chris was on the 14th tee as Tim’s ball rattled the hole, Tim’s loud yahoo was perfect timing as my opponent snap hooked his drive wondering what was happening….I got on the front foot then and finished with a 3/2 win.
Club Captain Dave Ransom kept his perfect record this year with a 2up win playing no.3. Dave said his opponent should have capitalized on some of his errant shots but instead, his go for it attitude got him in some trouble which Dave pounced on to close the game out on the 18th hole, ‘winning ugly’.
Ron Chilby had a great win 5/3 over Port’s Captain. Obviously Ron’s weekly game with Bernie McGlinchey has got him match ready, thanks Bernie.
Jim Henry went down 4/3 to a Port player who had a great patch of holes mid round and made it difficult for Jim to catch.
Thanks to Tony McRae and Stuart Potter for their support on the day organising the luncheon and drinks – most appreciated.
Next week we play @ Kiama where will try and bring home the Town and Country Cup.

WHC “A team” v Russell Vale @ Jamberoo
Jamberoo 3 – Russell Vale 3
After being welcomed to the tee at “Royal’ Jamberoo Phil Gosling was the first up. Phil played an excellent game and after winning the first he never trailed to claim a 4/3 victory.
Captain Chris Goodwin was next up playing the wily Russell Vale captain. He soon was behind and could not make up the deficit to eventually lose 4/3.
Gary Harvey was next to the tee and he played impeccable golf to win the first 8 holes. Clearly his opponent did not know how to handle Gary’s run of pars and birdies. Gary then disappointed by halving the ninth due to a three-putt, in an attempt to break 30 on the front nine. The match was soon over with Gary the big winner 8/7.
Bryan Nicoll was next up and he was in a dogfight with his Russell Vale opponent. The lead was exchanged on several holes but eventually the Russell Vale terrier pulled away to win on the 17th green.
Greg Seymour was the next to finish playing in the number 1 position. He was up against a 2 marker who had brought his A game with him. Greg held him for much of the match but his putts just would not drop on the slow greens. Greg eventually went down on the 16th green.
This left our number 2, Greg Tarrant, still out there with a chance to square the match. All square on the 18th Greg hooked his drive forcing him to lay up well short of the second hazard. Meanwhile his opponent hit a good drive and then a good second shot to be just short and right of the green. Things were not looking great for our team at this moment with Russell Vale seemingly having the advantage. When the times are tough, the tough get going and so it was with Greg. Greg hit his approach shot 5 metres from the hole, but importantly leaving it straight up the hill. His opponent then hits a good pitch but finishes 1.5 metres just above the hole. Greg putts and to the joy of his Jamberoo team-mates hits it purely and in it goes for the 4. This still leaves the Russell Vale player with the short putt for a square and victory for his team. He hits it perfectly and 4 inches from the hole it looks like going in, but, as we all know, there is a little bend in this putt at the hole and sure enough it takes this break and lips out giving Greg the victory and a half for the match.
This still leaves our team leading the division by a point but with games against Vincentia at Russell Vale and Bowral at Bowral to come, two wins will be necessary to qualify for the finals.
The next game at Russell Vale teeing off at 12.20 will be crucial.
