Club Championships – First Round News
In A grade the first round leader is Adrian Gehrmann with a fantastic 71 off the stick. He is followed by Steve Rippon with a 77 and Adrian Bell and Anthony Smith on 78. Adrian holds a one shot advantage over Pete Munro and two over Ken Bradley in the nett, 67 to 68 to 69.
Adrian started his round brilliantly and was 4 under par after 8 holes. He managed to maintain this form and finished with a great score of 71. Rippon surprised many pundits by playing but faulted on the greens after hitting 14 of 18 greens in regulation. Anthony Smith also played solidly but a run in with the creek behind the sixth hole had him playing catch-up for most of his round.
The B Grade leader is Greg Seymour with an 82. He is closely followed by the trio of Tony McRae, Phil Hellmund and Alan Jones on 83. Tony, Phil and Alan are joined in the lead for the nett by Bryan Nicoll all recording 66.
The C Grade leader is Lance Fredericks with an excellent score of 83. Mark Fisher follows in second spot with 85. Mark leads the nett by one from Lance 62 to 63. Gary Harvey is next with 65.
A trio of players lead D Grade with 95’s off the stick. Ian Martenz, Pete Wheatley and Keith Hales. Ian leads the nett with 62, while Pete and Keith trial by 3 with their 65’s.
Next week’s round promises much with many players ready to make their move in all grades.
Don’t forget that each week there is a separate daily competition and even if you have missed the opening round you can still win the daily competition.
Lost and Found
Last Saturday, Pete Wheatley lost his gold watch on the course. It has great sentimental value to Pete and he was devastated. A search of the course by several people proved to be fruitless and it looked like all was lost.
Then up stood one of our green-keepers, Warren Duncan. Walking the course after work Warren found the watch and noticed the engraving of Pete’s name. Warren then went to the extreme by ringing all the Wheatley’s in the phone book.
Thanks to Warren the watch and its relieved owner were re-united.
Thanks Warren, your efforts have not gone unnoticed and we at the club would like to commend you.
This week’s results
The wind continued to blow making scoring conditions very difficult this week. Despite this the course is in fantastic condition with many comments praising the efforts of Martin and his staff having been received.
The Lady Veterans had a fantastic competition on Thursday with 60 players playing in their Open day. Congratulations to Lorraine Cram on the organisation of the day after a previous weather postponement. A great day was had by all.
Phil Lewis was successful on the Drummond Golf Stableford winning with an honest 36 points on a countback from 3 others. Tony McRae gave an indication on this day that he was ready to play the championships having also scored 36 points on the day.
Lyn Kuskey, Marg Stephens and Lisa Bell were the successful monthly medalists for October, while Jenelle Anderson won the Golf Mart voucher today.
Lyn Beringer managed to give the men a beating on Monday scoring a great 39 points to defeat nearest rival Ken Bradley by 2.
