“The pat on the back, the arm around the shoulder, the praise for what was done right and the sympathetic nod for what wasn’t are as much a part of golf as life itself”. Gerald  Ford

Sunday saw the playing of the 27 hole Mixed Foursomes Championships at the club. The winners were Marie Farrant and Pat Paris with 133. They defeated Kay Brennan and Bruce Byers by one stroke in a very closely contested affair.

Kay and Bruce led for the majority of the round until they came to the ‘Bermuda triangle’, the dreaded 16th, 17th and 18th holes, the holes where a good round disappears mysteriously without a trace. They were left thinking of what might have been as they once again faulted with victory in their grasp scoring 22 over this stretch. Marie and Pat also suffered on these holes scoring 17 but held on to record the victory.

Dell and John Brand also played an excellent round scoring 138 over the 27 holes. This allowed them to easily win the best nett prize with a nett score of 108.75.

It is often said that a foursomes is the hardest of golf games and a sure way to wreck friendships with the constant hitting of your partner’s ball into hazards or under trees. I am glad to report that all competitors still seem to be talking to each other despite the golf that was played and the short putts that were missed. It doesn’t always need to be a large field to have a great event.

Congratulations to all the competitors.
