News from the Course 16th July

Jamberoo Open

A large field is assembling for the 2016 Jamberoo Open, sponsored by Drummond Golf Shellharbour. With Illawarra Open Series status many of the regions best golfers are set to put their skills to the test around the tight Jamberoo course and it should be a closely contested event. The course is in excellent condition with the greens running true and fast so a good score will be required to take the title.

There is also $700 worth of Drummond Golf vouchers up for grabs as well as nearest the pin and long drive prizes. With several of the biggest hitters in Illawarra golf playing then we expect another keen contest with the ‘longest drive’. Who will get bragging rights this year?

The super shot will also create much interest and a great shot on the 7th hole will be needed I am sure to get the cash.

A, B and C grades all have prizes so if you haven’t yet entered call the shop on 4236 0404 to get involved.

They say it doesn’t hurt to be mad to play golf. This week this assertion was put to the test with some awful weather about. For the 26 who entered Wednesday’s competition (and the 18 who finished) well done. I hope the wait wasn’t too long in the emergency department at the local hospital as they checked out your sanity after the game! Ten trees were blown down during the storm and a flag snapped in two on the third. This was some of the windiest weather ever recorded and it was miraculous that somebody wasn’t blown away! Most who finished stated that they were glad they played as the conditions really put their mental and physical skills to the ultimate test. It takes a certain kind of masochist to enjoy those conditions apparently. For the record Colin Cuthbertson won the day with 32 points with 22 points earning a ball. Norm Bampton picked a great day to return to golf after his forced lay off. He played well too, finishing third.

Congratulations go to the lady veterans who completed their championship on Bastille Day. The champion was Judi O’Brien who won a playoff against Kay Brennan after both finished on 189 over the two rounds. Nett winner was Jenelle Anderson who won clearly with a nett score of 145.
