 Vets Day in August
To help in the “raising the roof” fund, we will be serving gourmet rolls at our first outing in August. The rolls will consist of roast meats together with your choice of fillings. The cost will be $5.00 and this will include free coffee and cake. We would be pleased to serve as many of our vets as possible.

 Trevor Bell Shield
It was a cool winter’s morning for the start of the comp at The Grange for the postponed round from May. Course conditions were heavy with a “lift and clean” local rule operating through the green. The best score on the day was only 37 points which was a testament to the difficulty of the course. Geoff Reynolds was our best performer today with 36 points and it could be said that he was very unlucky not to win the day with the winners only a point ahead. Geoff was ably supported by Theo Schmieder with 32 points, Brian O’Hare 31 points, Karl Edlington 30 points, Ian Unsworth 29 points and Ron Chilby 26 points. I would particularly like to thank Ian Unsworth for filling in at late notice.

This gave us a total of 184 points which placed us in fourth position on the day. The winners today were Kiama who have won two of the three comps this year. They were followed by The Grange 192 points, Port Kembla 190 points, Jamberoo and Links Shell Cove 184 points, Wollongong 181 points and Russell Vale 172 points. Kiama have extended their lead over Port Kembla, followed closely by The Grange, then Jamberoo and Wollongong. The progressive scores are:
Kiama              591
Port Kembla   565
The Grange    562
Jamberoo       554
Wollongong   554
Links               537
Russell Vale   497

The next round of the Trevor Bell is at Jamberoo on Thursday 13th August and the nomination form is on the Vets notice board. If you are interested in representing your club in a very convivial atmosphere, then this is the comp for you. We are a couple of players down this year due to a lack of availability so any new nominations would be gratefully received.

I am confident that we will be able to put up a strong showing at home to try and cut Kiama’s strong start to the season. After the Jamberoo game, there are games at Port Kembla, Russell Vale and Wollongong and if I remember correctly, Jamberoo players won at all of those courses last year, so we are still in the mix for an exciting finish to the year.

At the conclusion of last year’s competition we omitted to get a photo of the triumphant group so could I ask for as many of last year’s team to be present on Thursday the 13th for a team photo.
