2015 Jack Newton Junior Golf, Junior-Am

A sunny morning greeted the Jamberoo Team for the 2015 Junior-Am held this year at Port Kembla Golf Club on the 29th of June. A quality field of promising juniors, both local and state-wide, played as the marquee players in each group. For the past two years this event has been hosted by JNJG to help raise funds for the development of junior golf at each of the Illawarra clubs.

The Jamberoo team, composed of Junior Development Officer Phil Lewis, club professional Jim Butt, club Captain Dave Ransom and promising junior Nathan Harrington, played an enjoyable round of golf to score a gross 69 and nett 59.125 in the Ambrose event on the par 72 course. All players had a fantastic day but the putts refused to drop leaving the team in a solid 6th place overall.

The big story of the day from a Jamberoo perspective was the form of our own promising junior. Nathan continually blasted out 270 metre plus drives to put his playing partners in positions that they were unaccustomed to playing from on the long and challenging Port Kembla course. He usually followed these with towering lob wedges that landed softly on the firm greens. With further refinement from Jim I forsee Nathan being a real force in Jamberoo golf in the future.

Concluding an excellent day, the presentation saw Jamberoo Member Col Owers lucky enough to have his name drawn out to win a brand spanking new Scotty Cameron putter from Titleist worth over $300. Congratulations Col.

Thank you to those Jamberoo members who bought raffle tickets to support junior development at our club. All funds raised will be used to directly assist our juniors.
