AS you may have read a new course record was achieved by Steve Rippon in the March Monthly Medal. Steve fired a super round of 62 to break the old record of 65 by three. Steve followed this with an incredible 58 off the stick on the 25th of March to record 44 points in the Wednesday comp off his +1 handicap. This round included a three putt bogie on his nemesis hole, the 11th. Can he go lower?
A successful Mens Pennant season has finished with all 3 teams qualifying for the semi-finals and the White Horse Cup team winning the Pennant. Members can see the Pennant proudly on display in the Golf Shop.
To win a Pennant it takes a whole club effort from the buying of team shirts and golf balls, organizing food and beverages for visiting teams, to the support of the dedicated team members by the rest of the club. Clearly members participating in the various club match play events also give our players great experience at matchplay. Congratulations to the players in all three teams.
Congratulations to the organisers of the recent charity golf days held at the club. The White Duck Prostate Cup and the Pink Ribbon Ovarian Cancer Days were well supported and raised quite a deal of money for these worthwhile charities.
Unfortunately the Keno Mixed Fourball event was not well supported with only one pair nominating to play. Congratulations none-the-less goes to Lance and Robyn who will now represent the club at the next stage.
Feedback from members on the new 4 grade setup for Saturday and Wednesday competitions has been very positive and the Match Committee proposes to keep it running. There may be some minor tweaks to the handicap cut-off points in the coming months but members will be given plenty of notice if this eventuates.
Finally, the lateral water hazard (red markers) near the 7th green has been changed into a water hazard (yellow markers). This action has been taken as it was noted that some members were inadvertently taking drops on the green side of the hazard but closer to the hole in contravention of the rules of golf. If your ball enters the hazard in this region you must proceed under rule 26.1.
The player may under penalty of one stroke:
- proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or
- Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped;
