White Horse Cuppers have big home win

White Horse Cup Team 560 2

THE Jamberoo White Horse Cup team had a convincing victory at home on the weekend to remain on top of their competition ladder.

The Cuppers defeated Gibraltar Golf Club 6 – 0 with some decisive individual performances. Jamberoo is on equal competition points with arch rival Sussex Inlet but is a shade in front due to winning more individual matches in the three rounds completed so far.

Meanwhile, the other two Pennant squads didn’t fare so well this week with B Pennant losing 2/3 at Shell Cove and C Pennant going down 1/4 in a tough ask against Port Kembla at Port Kembla.

Individual Reports:

White Horse Cup Round 3 vs Gibraltar Golf Club at Jamberoo

Dave Ransom 144

Jamberoo defeated Gibraltar 6-0

Anthony Smith won 7/6

Dave Ransom won 3/2

Larry Kent won 4/3

Brian O’Hare won 7/6

Brad Jackson won 5/3

Shane Townsend won 5/4

A great performance by all of the players saw the Jamberoo WHC team complete a whitewash on the men from Gibraltar Golf Club.

Anthony continued his superb form easily accounting for his opponent on the 12th green.

Larry was only 2 up at the turn but really turned on the pressure on the back nine to win on the 15th.

Brian, fresh from a week of motivation watching the lady pros in Melbourne, was drawn to play another two metre tall 16 year old. Brian again proved experience often beats youth  and won on the 12th green.

Brad also continued to play excellent golf winning his match with ease.

Shane recorded his first win for Jamberoo in a very encouraging performance, winning on the 14th green.

Thanks to Steve Jackson and Scott Hainsworth for their cooking prowess and support of the team on the course and also to Steve Rippon who acted as caddie for Dave. Steve is still shaking his head at the horrible putting performance that he witnessed.

The team is off to a good start but the hard games are in front of us and we will need to maintain our good form if we are to progress.

There is a bye next week in the WHC with our next game scheduled for Nowra against the other undefeated team in the division, Sussex Inlet, on the 9th of March.

Round 3 Jamberoo V Port Kembla @ Port Kembla

Chris Leckey Portrait 171A difficult task was proven to be!

After the two week  break the “Cs” were keen to play, and in perfect conditions we were beaten 4/1 by a strong home side.

Tom Zimmermann continues his great form by beating their #1in a close match taking our only win 2 up. Tom’s class showed as he stayed solid when the pressure was on over the last 2 holes under the watchful eyes of both teams.

Ron Chilby played Port’s captain and held on until the 15th (a difficult par 3 )  to go down 4/3.

Arthur Bosanquet was up against an old Jamberoo Pennant player in Ken Baker and was 6 down after 8 holes. Following a mid round pep talk from Tony, Arthur put on another late charge to just go down 2/1.

Peter Francis had concerns about being in too many bunkers today but only landed in two, the problem was his opponent had a great round going and didn’t let Peter into the match, finishing on the 15th 4/3.

Chris Leckey was chasing the lead all day and held on till the 15th going down 5/3.

The team was well supported by team motivator Tony McRae and Cameraman Wayne Griffiths who will be in action next weekend @ Vincentia.

This year’s pennant may be out of reach with this loss but the team still has the will to win, so let’s see if we can win the following matches.

B Pennant Vs Shoalhaven Heads at Links Shell Cove

B Pennant team lost 2/3 at Shell Cove on Sunday.

A.Bell lost 1 down

T.Persson won 4/3

P.Hazeltine won 6/5

P.Munro lost 2/1

M.Bell lost 2/1

Match report:

Jamberoo B pennant team had another very close finish losing three matches to two against Shoalhaven Heads at the Links Shell Cove.

Paul Hazeltine holed several birdies on the front nine and was back in the club house early again. He wasted no time in putting his opponent away with a convincing six and five win.

Tom Persson had to shake off a determined opponent who holed several huge putts and a hit miraculous shot from the hazard on the 4th hole and then holed the putt for a birdie. Tom kept the pressure on and ran away with the match on the back nine.

Matt Bell felt he was playing solid golf but found himself three down after five. His opponent came out of the blocks quickly with a series of pars. Matt made a comeback mid-way through the round but went down two and one to an opponent playing “hot” golf on the day.

Next week the team takes on Links Shell Cove II at Moss vale.
