Mayor of Kiama Opens New Golfers Lounge at Jamberoo

Mayor Brian Petshcler officially opened the new Golfers Lounge at Jamberoo Golf Club on Sunday 1st of December. by unveiling a plaque thanking the many volunteers. In celebration of the opening of the renovations he praised the vision of the club and the efforts of the 30+ volunteers who worked on the project. The club is lucky to have many members who are professional tradesmen and were only too happy to volunteer as the labourers, carpenters, plasterers, painters, electricians and plumbers for the Golfers Lounge and Office project.

In his introductory speech President Lance Fredericks gave special praise to Michael Carr, who came up with the concept and was instrumental in the planning and building of the new golfers lounge and club administration office. He also recognised the spirit of Jamberoo Golf Club members where they are always willing to help out when called upon or when there is need. The project will be complemented with the erection of a beautiful covered BBQ area to be completed in the near future.

Showing that they are not only good club members but also keen golfers 6 groups set out to compete for the prizes. All teams performed creditably with the winning score being a gross 30 from the team of Laurie Craft, Alan Cox, Peter Young and Ray Orr. The consolation prize was won by the team of Paul Rodgers, John Ellsmore and Tony McRae with a gross 38.

Reports from the course praise the efforts of Alan Cox, playing his first game in 3 years, as the major contributing factor for the winning team. Like a good wine (co-incidentally the winning prize) the longer the round progressed the better he got.

The consolation winners felt that the disadvantage of playing with only 3 players in a 4 person event was too much to overcome and so they were deserved winners of the consolation wine.

Mayor Brian, a local Jamberoo member, showed that he was more than a politician and played well in his group with President Lance, Ladies President Shirley and club Captain Dave.

Thanks must be given to the organisers of the day, Margaret Stephens, Sue Paul, Rose Sheath and Stuart Potter and their helpers for putting on such a fine spread. The sausages were cooked to perfection and the varied salad choices were exceptional as was dessert and refreshments.

On behalf of the Board a giant thank you is extended to all our volunteers.

The day was so successful, plenty of talk of another day next year, watching the ending of the Australian Open.
