Paul and Arthur face off before their matchplay final

By Dave Ransom

IN a very close and keenly contested match, Paul Hazeltine has emerged victorious over Arthur Bosanquet 4 and 2 to take the 2013 Single Matchplay Championship.

Paul’s vast matchplay experience stood him in good stead as he overcame the pugnacious Arthur despite having to give away 5 shots in the handicap matchplay format.  The game was very even early where each player took the lead only to have his opponent pull it back and it was not untill the 8th and 9th holes that Paul was able to gain some dominance to lead 2 up at the turn. Paul’s long game was clearly apparent on the back nine where he played mistake free golf to close out the match on the 16th green.

The single matchplay championship is an ideal way to meet and play golf with your fellow members as well as, for those aspiring pennant players, an opportunity to log up some tough competition under match play conditions. We hope that the competition continues to grow in popularity and we look forward to your continued support next year. Congratulations to both finalists.
