Men’s Championships 2013

THE Men’s Club Championship will be played over three Saturdays and a Sunday in 2013 as notified in the Club Programme book on page 4.

It was noticed at the conclusion of the 2012 championship that participation levels for the final two rounds were down, a trend that has continued for several years. The Match committee was also aware of the opinions of many members who considered 4 weekends of stroke play very difficult, especially if you were not in contention or not playing well.

The Championships is the only time each year that a member generally has a chance to play a 4 round tournament. This being the case it was decided to run the championships as a tournament in 2013 with a ‘cut’ after two rounds and a seeded draw for the last two rounds to create greater interest and excitement.

Those players who miss the cut will play in a stableford event on the third Saturday for a new trophy to be called the Jamberoo Plate.

To determine the size of the ‘cut’ the statistics of the 2012 championship were analysed and the final position of competitors after two rounds in each grade was noted.

From this analysis it has been determined that the top 12 gross plus the next 4 best nett in each grade will progress to play for the club championship in their grade on the third Saturday and the Sunday. To be eligible to win the championship you must be available to play in the seeded section of the tournament.

The dates for the championship are Saturdays September 7, 14, and 21 and Sunday September 22.

Good luck to all participants in both the Championships and the Plate.
