Matchplay Final.
The Mens Fourball Matchplay final was contested last Saturday against two very evenly matched teams.
Both teams were relatively unchallenged in the lead up to the final winning all their preliminary games easily. The final promised much more than this.
With both teams similarly handicapped a close encounter was promised and delivered.
Matching hole to hole, the team of Peter Francis and Noel Laman took a 1 up lead over the Ron Hewson/Pete Munro combo after Noel managed a birdie on the ninth hole.
Not to be outdone Ron and Pete squared the match and after 18 holes both teams were even.
Down the 1st again for the sudden death playoff but this time Noel and Peter managed to find a par and win the hole on this first play-off hole.
Well played to both teams and congratulations to Noel and Peter on winning this important team Honour Board event.
Successful Charity Day.
Last Saturday also saw the playing of the November Charity Ambrose for the JDRF.
This was well supported by our Members who donated $225 in cash donations to this very worthwhile charity. The club will match this donation and so a total of $450 will be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund on behalf of the members of Jamberoo Golf Club.
The new concept of graded Ambrose events continued with the cut off for Division 1 being a team handicap of 10 or less.
Winners on the day were :
Div 1 Winners: Geoff Reynolds, Paul Henderson, Gary Hemus, & Brett Feilding with 49.875,
Div 2 Winners: Glen Bayo, Sylvia Karschies, Stephen Kennedy & Rebecca Kennedy with 47.375.

Mixed Fourball surprise.
The last Sunday Mixed fourball event for 2023 was held at the club last Sunday. In a surprise twist club Captain, Larry Kent, decided to reverse the prize order with last place winning first choice of the prizes.
As it turned out all pairs received bottles of wine as their prizes with a big thankyou going to April and Col Van Woerkom for their kind donation.
After the game a Xmas luncheon was relished by all with everybody contributing to the shared meal. Much Christmas cheer was enjoyed.
The Mixed Fouball re-commences in the new year on January 28.
Latest Greens Committee Update.
Greenkeeper’s Report/WHS (Nick Goodger)
Rain: 59.5 mm for November (40 mm last November); patchy but not bad.
Some new hazard and tee marker blocks have been replaced (ongoing).
Grub damage on some fairways; insecticide ordered; need rain to wash it in.
Mainly mowing now.
Plan for 5th tee? NG: Wants to remove casuarinas to reduce tree root problem.
Some vets on Monday asked about fixed carpet areas on bad tees. NG has not yet looked at examples at Mollymook; he will do so.
Apprentice? We have advertised locally, but no enquiries. Discussion. We will need to advertise more widely.
1. Thank you to our volunteers on their continued good work around the course. It is very much appreciated.
2. Carpet to be placed on small exposed bridges as a temporary measure to reduce slipperiness in wet weather despite uneven surface on these bridges. Ultimately it is hoped to create small bridges over pipes similar to that near the 7th tee.
3. The old bubblers will be reinstalled beside the 18th and behind the 13th tee to signify that this water is safe to drink.
4. Linda’s accident & aftermath, including the visit from SafeWork were revieved. Repairs to ceiling completed by John Anthony and his team from Just Bathrooms. An excellent job. Painting to be organised in due course.
5. Sunscreen and hats for ground staff: Ground staff will have access to free sunscreen from Cancer Council. Hats are available. We have been sent another sunscreen stand which will be placed on the course.
6. A suggestion by Liz Armstrong to build a high fence along the 4th was debated: expensive but with a grant it is a good idea. It was also suggested that contact be made with the other sporting clubs that use the adjoining oval. The Secretary will write to Council re shared responsibility for 4th fence and asking what they intend to do.
7. Wednesday and Saturday players teeing off at proper time. Discussion of issue. Nick notices that it is still a problem; shotgun start on Monday included golfers teeing off ahead of time. Agreed that we need a siren. DR will arrange the purchase of a siren. Shotgun starts move to an 8:00 start in future.
Starting times: People are starting very early (e.g. 6:04). Problem for greenstaff, who can’t start any earlier due to noise restrictions. This is affecting the preparation time available for the course on these days. Please don’t hit off before your tee time.
8. Bare patches on fairways: should we purchase turf? Poor quality of replacement turf available on course. It might be better to buy a palate of commercially grown turf to replace bare patches.
9. Prioritising trees for removal/trimming? Discussion of issues.
10. A large hole near the tree just at the end of the bridge coming off the 7th: dangerous for carts has been repaired by greenstaff.
11. If your ball finishes on a green you are not playing then you should take a free drop, not nearer the hole you are actually playing and 2 club lengths from the green you finished on. This situation often arises on the 3rd green while playing the 2nd, the 14th green while playing the 15th and the 7th green while playing the 11th.
12. Sand has been moved away from the edges of bunkers and moved towards the centre of bunkers. It is proposed that the area behind the hedge on the ninth, including the tee and carpark be considered a red penalty area. A drop zone will be created. Please do not drive carts directly behind the 9th green to get to the shop.
