News from the Course

Jamberoo Veteran Golfers.

At the Monthly Jamberoo Veterans Board Meeting, it was decided to increase the annual joining fee of the Vets from $8.00 to $10.00. This will become payable from October 1, the start of the new Vets season.

Please note the correct date for the new season to commence which has been amended from the original article.

The increase is attributable to the Illawarra Veterans Golf Association requiring additional funds to provide a successful running of the Trevor Bell Shield as cash reserves have been depleted in these inflationary times.

We are taking the initiative in advance to ensure a continued smooth transition for Jamberoo Vets.

Local Rules and Notices Update

Don’t drive motorised carts within 5 metres of a green or tee. Doing so hurts the grass and hardens the surrounds around the greens and makes those tricky chip shots even harder to control.

If you are using a motorised cart don’t cross to the southern side on either bridge on the 5th hole. Park and walk across, or take your cart to the 6th tee and walk back over the second bridge to the green.

READ the SIGN!

Play the ball as it lies unless it is on a bare patch on a fairway. If the ball is on a bare patch then place the ball within 30 cm of the edge of the bare patch not nearer the hole.

Larry Kent, Captain

Mens Eclectic

Each year the club holds an eclectic tournament free of charge.

This year it is running between August 2 and November 5.

For every stroke or stableford round you play the computer keeps a record of the best score you have had on every hole. At the end of the competetion your total best score is calculated and 1/2 of your daily handicap is deducted to work out the winner and to have your name engraved on the Fredericks IGA plaque.

Some players have started out well with many birdies and pars being achieved. I’ll publish a listing of leaders as at the end of August in the next post.

Match Play

The Women’s Hooker Cup is up and running with some matches already decided.

The Club Individual Matchplay Championship has reached the final with Pat Paris set to play Les Skarratts.

Pat was just able to overcome the tenacious Liz Armstrong on the 18th hole and Les accounted for Larry Kent also on the 18th in a high-quality match.

Entries for the Mens Fourball Matchplay are now being taken. Please register your team on the sheet near the starter.

  1. G’day Larry,

Might be worth clarifying in a future newsletter what a bare patch is on a fairway. I have heard that some regard a divot, whether sand filled or not a bare patch. To my knowledge, this for example is not regarded as a bare patch. I have also heard that relief has been taken when standing in a bare patch on a fairway when the ball is not (as you would take relief from standing on a path).

If this is easy to summarise / define, then it might also be worthwhile to display a simple sign to cater for those members & visitors that do not read the daily cow.

Most golfers do their best to abide by the rules to the best of their knowledge but many, myself included, can be unsure of some of the intricacies of the rules so a friendly reminder never goes astray.

    Regards
