News from the Course – 21 June

Volunteer Working Bee – Friday 30 June 2023.

As advised previously the first or our regular Volunteer Working Bees will be held on Friday 30th June 2023.  These working bees are intended for the last Friday of each month.

Our garden volunteers do a wonderful job maintaining the gardens around the course, and there are a few garden tasks planned for this first working bee.  We will have suitable jobs for all levels of physical capacity, so come along and get involved in the long tradition of volunteering at Jamberoo Golf Club.  Feel free to bring a friend along even if they are not a golfer.

All you need to bring is some suitable gloves for garden related work.  Be sure to wear closed in shoes, and a hat.  All tools will be supplied, but feel free to bring along your own snips, shovel, crow bar or other favoured tool.  We will start work at 8:30 and finish at 12:00 for a sausage sizzle lunch.

Please register your participation with the golf shop by Wednesday 28/6/23 so that we can ensure we have enough lunch to go around.

New EFTPOS System to be installed tomorrow.

Rising transaction fee costs charged by our banks has meant that Jamberoo Golf Club is forced to follow the example of many other businesses and to add a small surcharge to all credit card transactions.

These will now attract a 1.5pct surcharge to the customer on top of the price for the goods or services they are buying as from Friday.  A $5.50 soft drink or beer will now attract an 8c surcharge for example.

Please also note the new Oolio EFTPOS units will enable us to take credit card payments over the phone.

Members have the option to pay belated annual subs via Direct Debit or cash.

Play the Ball as it Lies

I implore all members to look carefully at the noticeboard before commencing play.

All of our Local Rules and Conditions of Play are to be found there.

Today, the much anticipated playing condition, as mentioned in earlier newsletter articles, of playing the ball as it lies was re-introduced. Also note that balls on fairways finishing on bare patches are allowed to be lifted and dropped away from the abnormal course condition under rule 16.

Despite two posted notices and communication from the starter some players failed to obey this rule today.

It has been decided to play today as a trial run of the re-introduced playing condition. There will be no leniency from Saturday. No preferred lies.

Some players have communicated with me tonight and admitted taking preferred lies today and have graciously donated any prize and ball winnings to the club’s charity, the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. I appreciate this gesture.
