Round 1 has been completed and there have been some excellent matches played with close results.
Michael Carr was able to overcome a gallant Ron Hewson on the 18th; Paul Rogers outlasted Rabbit Warren Joannou 2/1; Chris Goodwin held off Dave Cotterill 2/1; Warwick Drew defeated the highly experienced Athol Casey 2/1 and Brian O’Hare used his White Horse Cup experience to defeat last year’s finalist Peter Saunders 2/1 in an exciting match.
Ray Orr lead early but was overcome by Simon Tedeschi 4/3; in the battle of the big-hitters, Tony Panecasio defeated James Russell 4/3; Arthur Bosanquet, continuing his excellent pennant match play form, defeated the very strong Ken Bradley 2 up in a high quality match. The quiet achiever, Laurie Craft, easily accounted for Dave Ransom 4/3 in a strong performance and last year’s champion Chris Burton was defeated 6/5 by big-hitting B pennant player, Paul Hazeltine. The result of the eagerly awaited encounter between President Lance and B pennant tyro Jarryd Buckley is still undecided at this stage.
Round 2 sees some very interesting matchups with Paul Hazeltine playing Simon Tedeschi; Michael Carr against Paul Rogers; Matthew Bell against Arthur Bosanquet; Warwick Drew against Brian O’Hare; Tony Panecasio playing Pete Munro; Ian Bradburn playing Tom Persson; Laurie Craft taking on Richard Bremner; and Chris Goodwin playing the winner of the Fredericks-Buckley match.
Well done to all the winners, and for the rest of us who came second in their matches there is always next year. Dream of future success; think hard about what went wrong, work hard on those faults and head to the bar to drown those sorrows!
