News and Views 5th July

The weather forecast is clear but with cool wintry weather predicted for the next few days make sure you are well rugged up as you play that round at our course.

Thanks to all those who played last Saturday in the Ambrose Championship. It was the largest field we have had at Jamberoo for quite a while. It was a fun day and everybody was a winner even before we hit-off.

Although playing in eights led to 5 hour rounds most people were content to enjoy the company of their fellow members and indeed quite a few ‘grudge’ matches were engaged within groups with the winning team taking the bragging rights. Most people didn’t even notice the length of the round as the game flowed smoothly.

We won’t be having a lot of ‘8 balls’ but it was necessary this time to maintain the integrity of the competition considering the size of the prizes. I’m sure that most of us understood this.

Thanks also to our Lady members who forego their competition so that more visitors could have a game. Thank you also to Margaret Stephens and Sue Paul for their dedication to the club by supplying and cooking all the meals and making sure that everybody was well looked after their round.

A few numbers remain in the ‘100’ club raffle so why not grab that last number. It might be the winner. You can put your name down on the sheet in the golf shop.

Be Careful Around the Cup

One thing I did notice while driving around last Saturday was the number of players who are using the flag to pull out their ball from the hole.

Simply don’t do this.

As you lift the flag the ball can become slightly wedged and as a result the cup moves up a little. As many players do this eventually a little “volcano” is formed around the hole. This is why that putt that looks like going in suddenly stops breaking as it slows and even deviates the other way.

Pick the ball out with your hand after carefully removing the flag. Don’t bring the flag and ball out at the same time!

If you see somebody in your group doing this, remind them not to do it please.

Saturday Monthly Medal

Don’t forget to count your putts in the monthly medal. The putting contest is up for grabs. For the record a putt is a shot played from the grass on the green (even if you don’t use your putter). If you use your putter from the surrounds of the green than that shot is not counted as a putt.

Last Week’s Results

The course is playing very difficult with no run on the fairways and fast, breaking greens being the demise of many players. That’s ok as the winning score is not 47 points anymore and often you just need 30 points to get a ball. Indeed on Wednesday A grade and C grade were won with scores of 34 and 33 points. The round of the week goes to Darryl Back with an outstanding 42 points on Wednesday. He easily wins the Drummond voucher.

Congratulations go the our Lady members who played their 36 hole Veterans Championship this week. The weather looked threatening but it cleared both days for 2 excellent days of highly competitive, yet friendly golf. Congratulations go to Loretta Green on her victory by 4 shots over Kay Brennan. Pam Middlebrook was the nett winner by a very small margin of 1 shot over Jenelle Anderson. Well played all.

Don’t forget that the club runs a 9 hole comp every week. We call it the ‘Kingsford 9’.

For just $3 you can play any day and win yourself a voucher. Why not have a go?
