Jamberoo C Pennant Team wins its division

Team Captain Dave Ransom and team member Steve Oppert

The Jamberoo C Pennant Team has had an unbeaten run to win Division 2 of the 2009 Illawarra District Golf Association C Pennant Competition.

The team clinched the title and continued their flawless run with a 7 – 0 win over Russell Vale at The Grange on March 8.

The team includes Dave Ransom (C), Peter Francis, Chris Leckey, Terry Spicer, Steve Oppert, Tony Mcrae and Larry Kent.

Unfortunately, the team lost in the final for the outright C Pennant title against Vincentia at Shoalhaven Ex-Services (Worrigee) Course On Sunday 22 March.

The actual playing result was even on 3 all, but with one Jamberoo member unavailable to take part, Vincentia took the title 4 – 3.

As Captain Dave Ransom reported in the March 2009 Newsletter (available for download in the Notices, Reports Section):

“The final was played at Worrigee Links and in a close struggle Vincentia and our team were level 3 matches apiece. Unfortunately one of our members was unavoidably absent on the day and this game was credited to Vincentia giving them a 4 –3 victory and the pennant.
This was an exciting match with 5 of the 6 games finishing on the 18th green and could have gone either way. All of our team performed exceptionally on the day and the captain could not have asked more from his team. Well played mates. Congratulations to Vincentia who were worthy champions. They were able to find that little extra when needed, especially their number 5 who was three down with 5 to
play but who managed to play those 5 holes 2 under par to win on 18, and their number 6 who played 18 holes with only 22 putts.
The team appreciated the attendance of several supporters including our club president Phil and club captain Lance and congratulates
Athol Casey who filled in at the last moment to represent our club in the seventh game. It was a fitting tribute that Athol got a game in a pennant final after many years of stirling service as captain.”

Congratulations to the team from all Jamberoo Golf Club members and best of luck for next year.
