Jamberoo Valley Veterans Tournament 2009

Vets President Barry Walker and Tournament Director Ian Boles

WITH over 220 starters from three states and rave reviews about the course, the 2009 Jamberoo Valley Veterans Open Golf Tournament was an outstanding success.

Golfers from as far north as Kallope (near Gladstone) in Queensland and Wodonga in Victoria in the south played over two days – Thursday and Friday November 26 and 27 – on a course that was a picture.

Thanks to the combination of hard work by staff, the blossoming volunteers’ gardens, the recent beneficial weather conditions and the fortuitous arrival of 33 tonnes of new bunker sand, the course was immaculate.  (As can be seen by the photo galleries below. Just click to enlarge or hover you mouse for a preview.)

For such warm weather so close to the official start of summer, there was also a notable lack of flies. Maybe they have all been attracted to the goings on in Canberra.

Some 164 people attended the Presentation Dinner on the Thursday night, with Veterans President Barry Walker doing a wonderful job as MC, Geoff Boxall’s choir providing songs and skits, Lyn Walker performing a memorable rendition of An Ordinary Housewife” and others including Hugh Goldman from Wagga Country Club and Jamberoo’s Phil Lewis contributing to the excellent entertainment.

Sponsors attending the dinner included local PGA professional Jim Butt, Colin Hope and Brendan White from the Greater Building Society and Jon and Monique Demartin from Quick Play Golf, first time sponsors who also demonstrated their “Mono Cruiser” one person golf carts over the two days.

Once again, Tournament Director Ian Boles is to be congratulated on his tireless efforts in putting the event together and for his continuing contribution to the club.

The Mens Champion, winning the NSWVGA Trophy and Champion Badge, was Ian Filmer from Nelson Bay. Fillmer won with 42 stableford points on a count back from up and coming and totally immodest Jamberoo golfer Eddie Cram. Jamberoo’s Reg Wilson fwas third on 38 points.

The Ladies Champion was A Lowbridge from Beresfield on 40 points, with Jamberoo’s Di Morosin second on 39 points and S Smith (Nelson Bay) third on 38 points.
