New Illawara Vets Team Challenge

With 43 points John Rodgers was second overall
A TEAM of eight Jamberoo veteran members travelled to Russell Vale Golf Club last Wednesday (April 2) to take part in the first round of the new Illawarra Veterans Golf Association Team Challenge.
This is the first running of what is hoped will develop into an annual event and involves seven clubs from the Illawarra.
Clubs enter teams of up to eight players with rounds at each of the participating clubs. The best six stableford scores from each club are added to a cumulative total.
Individual trophies are awarded after each round and the clubs will be vying for the sure to be coveted Trevor Bell Shield.
In the first round Jamberoo’s John Rodgers got the club off to a great start with his 43 points on the very scenic Russel Vale course securing him second place overall. The winner with 45 points was J Reid from Port Kembla.
Unfortunately, the Jamberoo team overall did not fare so well and is aiming to climb off the bottom of the ladder at the next round at Wollongong.
Jamberoo’s six best scores belonged to John Rodgers, Neville Hutchins, Theo Schmeider, Karl Edlinger, Warren Joannou and Norm Bampton.
Once again the irrepressible Ian Boles did a great job organising Jamberoo’s side of things.
The clubs taking part are Jamberoo, Russell Vale, Wollongong, The Grange, Kiama, Shell Cove Links and Port Kembla.
