Jim’s Shed is down!

The old shed beside the first fairway, known as Jim’s Shed in honour of the late Jim Butt, is down.

Unfortunately the wood in the frame of the shed was riddled with termites and was in a very dilapidated condition. A big thankyou goes to member John Anthony and his father for safely taking down the fibro walls and ceiling, removing the roof and roller shutter and for turning off the electrical and water services.

Our green staff were able to finish the demolision today with the metal roof being kept for any possible reconstruction.

The area is still marked off as GUR and all players are requested to stay out of that area until further notice.

A good day at Jamberoo

Get into Golf Graduates at the Course

Our latest graduates from the Get into Golf Programme pictured at the course. Reports from Master Coach Geoff are that some talented players have taken their first steps into the game with assistance from our lovely helpers from the club.

Well done to you all.

GET INTO GOLF – for women

The latest GIG at Jamberoo GC has been completed with 14 women learning the ‘tricks of the trade’. Over the six weeks the clinic has focused on driving, chipping, putting and sand bunker shots. The last two weeks the players have been able to play a few holes and understand the etiquette and rules of the game.

Four women have applied to join the club and we look forward to seeing them on the course gaining their handicap cards. We also hope to see them at “Champagne 9” at 1pm on a Saturday.

A special thanks goes out to Geoff Wilson (Community Coach) for providing the opportunity for people to learn, practice and fine-tune their skills in a friendly environment.

I also want to thank the members who assisted at the clinics to make it a very social experience.

Unfortunately, the next clinic will not be until the new year.

A Good Choice?

Rod Poidevin’s lie after his tee shot on the 5th. A perfect chance to do the impossible, right?

Story and picture from his friend, Bob.

He probably did the right thing in taking a drop.

At least he doesn’t need to repair his broken club!

News from the Course

Jamberoo Aces

The trophies for the latest batch of hole-in-one achievers have arrived and are available in the trophy cabinet. Congratulations to Rod Poidevin, Don Thompson and Phil Thompson again.

Phil has avoided the dreaded ‘daily cow shot’ by picking up his trophy already.

Matt Tedeschi has his 2021 golden putter mug and 2021 gold medal prize available in the trophy cabinet and I will be more than pleased to present him with his awards when is available.

Finally, Anthony Smith mastered the 16th last Saturday holing his wedge for an eagle. Three balls have been credited to his account. Well played.

The 2022 Eclectic winner was Jake Willoughby and the IGA at Jamberoo have very generously donated a $100 gift card to Jake as 2022 winner. Well done Jake and thank you to the Fredericks IGA.

Larry’s Lounge

Larry Osterhaus, one of our beloved brethren, who was so sadly taken away from us last year, always enjoyed the view down the fifth hole before he inadvertantly hit his tee shot into the trees. Some of his Jamberoo friends have donated a seat in memory of their mate which was installed today.

Next time you reach the fifth tee have a rest on Larry’s lounge!

Monday Veteran Vouchers

Vouchers are now available from the Office. One important thing however is that if you want a ham then it would be best to go the Fredericks IGA who have them in stock. To order through the butcher requires a $50 deposit and he can’t accept the voucher as downpayment because he places the order immediately and can’t wait for the voucher to be verified through the club.

We are sad to announce the passing of Tony McRae, a well liked and respected member of Jamberoo Golf Club. Tony passed away peacefully on Thursday 10th of November ending his suffering after a long battle with cancer.

A talented golfer, Tony represented the club in the C Pennant and was always a force to be reckoned with in matchplay events. His jovial spirit and story-telling will be missed by his many friends at the club.

Tony’s funeral is to be held at the Northcliffe Chapel of Hansen and Cole, Kembla Grange on Thursday 17th November commencing at 10 am.

For those who can’t attend in person the service will be streamed live on the Hansen and Cole website:
