Men’s Pennant Results

An intriging day saw some Jamberoo hopes dashed while others were enhanced.

Firstly at home, the White Horse Cup division 3 team played a do or die match against Bowral.

Unfortunately for the ‘Cowpats’ it was a very disappointing result with Bowral showing excellent form and consistent play to win 6-1. Peter Hackett was our lone winner 6/5. the other matches were close but in the end the strong Bowral proved to be the better team.

Commiserations to Arthur Bosanquet losing on the 18th, Lee Haward lost 2/1, Anthony Smith down 4/3, Angus Pinkstone down 2/1, Peter Francis down 2/1 and Rob McLean down 6/4.

Team Captain, Shane Townsend was very proud of the efforts of his team during the season only to see them falter at the last hurdle.

The WHC division 1 team had a bye today and are left only with the final round next Sunday at Kiama to find that elusive semi-final berth.

In very good news, Our C Pennant team were playing Port Kembla at Port Kembla. The winner to pass through to the semis and the loser most probably out. This at a venue that has seen many a heart-break for our C Pennant team in the past.

Jamberoo won 3.5 to 1.5 to qualify for the semi-finals in probably the greatest win in Jamberoo C Pennant history.

Chris Leckey won 5/3 after losing the first 4 holes in a great comeback victory;

Pat Paris was behind all match but made a back-nine charge to level the scores after 15 only to go down 2/1. Ken Bradley again made a crucial putt on the 18th to square his match. Mal Hoy was in charge all day and progressed to win 2/1. Tom Zimmermann played very solidly to win his match 5/4.

Congratulations to the C Pennant team.

Unfortunately Jamberoo went down 3/2

For Jamberoo, Gail Rutledge went right through to the 18th in a close match to win 1 up and Lyn Kuskey won handily 4/3. Jenelle Anderson, Shirley Dixon and Lynne Beringer all played well but lost in close matches.

Congratulations to Susi Delamont.

Jamberoo member and keen Sunday golfer Susi Delamont recorded a hole-in-one last Sunday on the ninth hole. Reports were that it was a perfectly played shot that, like a tracer bullet, never left the hole and rolled nicely onto the green and into the hole for her first ace. An oustanding achievement as Susi is only new to golf.

Some of us have been waiting over 50 years and we are now officially jealous!

Congratulations Susi.

Care of the Course.

Please be mindful on the greens of how you remove your ball from the hole.

Do not whip out the ball using your putter and be careful lifting the flag from the hole. Pulling the flag out at an angle and grazing the edge is damaging the lip of the hole .

If you make a scuff mark near the hole with your feet then tap them down before you leave!

Don’t stand too close to the hole when retrieving your ball. Later in the day with soft greens, this will lead to a ‘volcano effect’, causing putts to veer off unexpectantly.

And of course, please repair your pitch marks!

Sunday Pennant Results

No Jamberoo team suffered a loss today but, having said that, two of our three teams were involved in tied matches.

C Pennant tied 2.5 matches each vs Port Kembla @ Jamberoo

Playing at home our team just managed to keep their chances of a semi-final berth alive with a great downhill putt on the 18th by Ken Bradley to square his match. Bob Neilson had a solid win as did Chris Leckey. Next weekend the C Pennant play Port Kembla at Port Kembla.

Pat Paris lost 7/5

Ken Bradley halved his match

Chris Leckey won 5/4

Mal Hoy lost 2/1

Bob Neilson won 5/3

White Horse Cup Division 1 tied 3.5 matches each vs Kiama @ Shoalhaven Heads

A very good performance against the powerful and motivated Kiama side. Dan Adams resisted the pressure to win the battle of the #1’s on the last green to secure the tie. The same can be said for the gallant Alan Jones who fought back from 2 down with 3 to play. John Anthony was very unlucky as his opponent hit his third shot out of bounds on the last only for it to rebound off the new clubhouse extensions back in bounds. It was great to see Phil Gosling back in form and confident. Rob Young played his usual mistake free round, while Don and Jeff came up against two players in top form. Next weekend the ‘Magpies have a bye.

Phil Gosling won 3/2

Jeff Draper lost 8/6

Don Thompson lost 5/4

John Anthony lost 2 down

Alan Jones squared his match

Rob Young won 4/2

Daniel Adams won 2 up

White Horse Cup division 3 won 6 to 1 against Nowra @ Kiama

Congratulations to the ‘Cowpats’ who won convincingly 6-1. An important match saw our team perform very well under pressure to maintain their lead in their division with one round to play. This match will be played at Jamberoo against the second placed Bowral team next Sunday.

Arthur Bosanquet won 3/2

Lee Hayward won 2 up

Anthony Smith won 4/3

Peter Hackett won 4/2

Peter Francis won 4/3

Peter Young won 2/1

Rob McLean lost 3/1
