Course in excellent condition after storm.

I have been informed today that the course has recovered well from the Sunday deluge. 138 ml of rain had fallen on the course over the three days from Sunday.

The course is now fully open and golf carts and ride-on buggies will be allowed from Friday.

A view of the 18th, taken today.

This Saturday we are playing a four-person Ambrose with a slight difference, there will be two divisions.

Division 1 is for teams with team handicaps less than 10, and division 2 is for teams with handicaps 10 or more.

Here are the rules for your information.

Rules:

  1. All players tee off on all holes.
  2. Select the best ball to play as you walk to the balls so as to keep play flowing.

  4. If the position of the selected ball is in the rough, sand bunker or a penalty area then the balls must be placed and played from the rough, sand bunker or penalty area. This process continues until the team has completed the hole.
  5. At least three tee shots from each team member must be used and shown on the scorecard.
  6. The scorecard must be signed by the marker and one other team member.

Women’s Golf Illawarra Pennant Results Monday

Bad weather forced some course closures on Monday with the Links Shell Cove and Gerringong courses both closed meaning that there was no play possible for the Gold and Bronze Pennant teams.

The news from Wollongong Golf Club was better with our Silver Pennant team winning against The Grange 4-1.

Individual Match Results

Jenelle Anderson won 5/4

Shirley Dixon lost 4/3

Lyn Kuskey won 1 up

Margaret Cook won 6/5

Jenny Grey won 9/8

Today in the pouring rain at Wollongong GC Silver team had a win.

Even though it was torrential at times our team shone thru.

-Jenelle Anderson up 5/4 great effort by Jenelle.

-Shirley Dixon down 4/3 no luck in that heavy rain today for Shirley. But fought well.

-Lyn KUSKEY went right to the 18th for 1up.

– Margaret Cook. First pennant game for this year was ready for that rain to come home 6/5.

– Jenny Grey not sure where she has been hiding, first pennant game after returning to golf after a long break romped it in with a whopping 9/8 up.

Thank you to our girls for an outstanding effort on a dreadful day.

Well Done.

Lyn KUSKEY (captain)

Players are reminded that there will be no Veterans Golf on Monday 27th of March due to the playing of the Women’s Gold and Bronze Pennants.

The Wednesday competition that week will have a special Vets section for members to play in.

Go the Roo!

Magpies gallant in defeat

A mathematical chance was our only hope in the final round. We needed to win and have the leading team, Moss Vale, get defeated by the bottom team.

Unfortunately Moss Vale won their match 7-0 and we lost ours 4-3.

That concludes the season for the Magpies who it must be said played some excellent matches over the season only to fall short in the end.

Thank you to the efforts of the team and to chief Pecker Larry Kent.

Last weekend also saw the end of an era for the Cowpats who were defeated in their last game to run second in their division. This team has made the finals every year since 2015 so it was sad to end a great run. Still next year awaits.

Thanks to all our 2023 Cowpats and to chief patty, Shane Townsend.

Big days at Jamberoo

Two very busy days at the course this weekend. Firstly, a very large field in the competition, with many visitors from the prospective semi-finalists playing a round to check out our course.

Secondly, the WIG and Champagne 9 was again very well attended with special guest Dave Sadd in attendance to give us the benefit of his experience and wisdom.

“The Champagne 9 team wish to publicly thank David Sadd for volunteering his time at our course to provide coaching tips to our group. This event occurred following the promotion of ‘Women in golf’ at the driving range in February in which some of our members participated.

Thanks also to Kris Morrison for co-ordinating this catch-up.”

Thirdly, the Illawarra Pennant and B Pennant semi-finals were played Sunday morning with a very high standard of play being demonstrated. In the Illawarra Pennant both Wollongong teams progressed to the finals with tight wins over their opposition. In the B Pennant The Wollongong club completed a big day with qualification to the final along with Kiama.

Thank you to Lance Fredericks, Shane Townsend and Bruce Hammond for all the help given today.

Please check your Cards at the end of your round

It is very disappointing when you find out you have been disqualified because you forgot to sign your card, or worse, if your marker forgot to sign.

We don’t enjoy it either when we check and find the mistake.

It is a simple thing to do, so please check the card before it goes in the box.
