Champagne 9 hit an all-time high of 36 players, with perfect weather conditions making for a wonderful day on the course.
Congratulations to our winning team of Ray & Diane Whiting and Chris Dubois, who posted an outstanding 31.25 nett. They finished just half a shot ahead of Joel McIntosh, Paul Vigurs and Letitia Holmes, who claimed second place with 31.75 nett.
Third place went to Phil & Gloria Thompson and Sharon Prytherch with a score of 33.17 nett.
A special mention to Joel McIntosh for taking extra time out of his day to play and assist some of our higher-marker golfers. His support and encouragement, along with John Anthony’s lessons are greatly appreciated and help make Champagne 9 a great event for everyone.
Next Week: (20th June) Champagne 9 will commence at 12pm due to the large numbers in the main competition.

NSW Golf Foundation Supports Jamberoo Golf Club
Jamberoo Golf Club extends its sincere thanks to the NSW Golf Foundation for its generous support of golf at our club.
With assistance from the Foundation, we have been able to establish our new Gold Course through the construction of several additional teeing areas as part of the gold course design. These new tees have already been successfully utilised in a number of Medley Ambrose events and recently saw their first use for individual competition play during the June Women Veterans Stableford. Construction still continues on 3 additional teeing grounds.
The feedback from players has been overwhelmingly positive. Many golfers reported that the Gold Course provides a more enjoyable and accessible playing experience, allowing them to successfully negotiate some of the course’s more challenging holes that were previously beyond their reach from the back tees.
The introduction of the Gold Course is an important step in making golf at Jamberoo more inclusive and enjoyable for players of all ages and abilities, and we thank the NSW Golf Foundation for helping make this initiative possible.
Jamberoo Golf Club has completed construction of new permanent tees as part of a project that has delivered a fully rated Gold Course for the Illawarra club, opening up fairer competition for female players across both social and pennant golf.
The project, supported by a grant from the NSW Golf Foundation, saw new grass tees constructed on the 4th, 15th and 14th holes, with groundwork also completed on two further holes.
Soil was purchased, watering connected to the club’s irrigation system, and turf laid to a high standard. The club also contributed additional funds toward labour and equipment hire.
The impact has been immediate. Female participation in Medley Ambrose competitions has grown from around six players to approximately 25 since the new tees came into play, and six women competed from the Gold tees during the most recent Pennant season in March.
Women’s President Pam Middlebrook said the project had delivered something the club had long needed.
“A new fairer course that can be permanently put into play has given women players a fair chance in Ambrose and Pennant competitions, being 80% in length of the Men’s Blue Course,” she said.
Project co-ordinator and life member David Ransom echoed that view.
“The new Gold Course can now be used for social play and for competitions by both female and male veterans,” he said.
“It is a real course with an official rating and its own tees.”
Prior to the project, female players competing in Golf NSW Illawarra Pennant lacked a course with a matching par and appropriate distance relative to the men’s layout. The new Gold Course resolves that, providing a permanent, properly rated alternative that is expected to continue driving growth in female participation at the club.
Plans are already in place to install permanent signage acknowledging the NSW Golf Foundation’s support, and the new tees have already been used for a charity Ambrose day and several club competitions.
