Member Update May 27

by Phil Hahn,

President

Members, it is pleasing to be able to advise that even after our recent membership fee increase, Jamberoo remains by far the cheapest and best value golf club in our region.

Our fees are significantly lower than all local competitor clubs and your Board strives to keep it that way. As a not-for-profit, community-run golf club, we work hard to ensure membership remains as affordable as possible.

At $790 per annum, our annual membership fees are around half the price of neighbouring clubs, some of which also charge a one-off joining fee roughly equivalent to our full annual membership.

Additionally, some local competitor clubs have closed their books to new members or limited certain membership categories. These larger clubs, with much bigger membership numbers, often have significant competition for tee times.

“The Roo” also offers many other advantages, including:

• Reciprocal rights with other clubs (check our website);

• No extra fee to use your own cart or scooter.

• The option to save trophy account funds to offset the following year’s membership fee. (Many clubs require trophy account funds to be spent in their pro shop or bar, meaning members still pay the full renewal fee separately.)

If you haven’t yet renewed, please note: the membership year expires on 31 May 2026 and fees must be paid by 30 June 2026.

While on the subject of fees, the Board, at its May meeting, approved small increases to most other fees and charges following a thorough review. These changes — such as an additional $1 for member cart hire and $1.50–$2.00 for non-members — will take effect from 1 June. They are necessary given that many charges have remained unchanged for at least two years, despite significant increases in operating costs during that time.

Members may also notice another new staff member has joined the team, Aaron Peppoloni. Our two latest recruits, Aaron and Reuben Lynch, are both golfers, so please make them feel welcome when you see them around the club and out on the course.

Importantly, I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new Vice Captain, with Mitch Smee joining the Board in that role. Previous Vice Captain Mathew Ross has moved into the Club Captain’s position. I am confident both will do an excellent job.

It is great to see two younger members stepping into Board roles and I encourage everyone to make them welcome.

Nearest the Pin Changes from June 1.

It is time to change the arrangement of Nearest the Pin contests.

From June 1 the Super Shot will move to the 7th hole.

To facilitate this change the other nearest the pins are moving as well.

Hole 13 will now be the B grade nearest the pin;

Hole 15 will remain as the A grade nearest the pin.

The drive and Pitch holes will remain as they presently located.
