2026 Conditions of Play.

by Dave Ransom.

Please see this excerpt from the 2026 conditions of play which can be found on the club website at https://jamberoogolf.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Jamberoo-Golf-2026-conditions-of-play.pdf.

This under the MORE tab/Notices and downloads.

“Precautions in case of lightning and severe weather: Players have responsibility for their own safety and have the option to mark their ball, stop play, seek shelter and resume play when they believe it is safe to do so. If you are caught out on the course during severe weather act to ensure your safety. If you are concerned about lightning or high wind, come off the course immediately.

Course Closures and Competition Cancellations The course will only be closed, or a competition will only be cancelled if either: playing in the conditions would in the view of the Head Green Keeper or his delegates cause unacceptable damage to the course or would in the view of the Club Captain or his delegate constitute an unacceptable risk of harm to the players. If the playing conditions are deemed unsuitable for play, the Club Captain or his delegate will suspend the competition and after a minimum period of 60 minutes reassess the playability of the course. If the greens become flooded and are unputtable then players may mark their ball and come back to the clubhouse and wait to see if conditions improve. The responsibility rests with the player whether to play on or leave the course if they are on the course in these situations.

Re-Opening the Course: When conditions have improved, and play can safely resume the captain, or their delegate will re-start the competition.”

The policy is once you start you don’t get a refund. According to published competition rules it is a players decision to come off under adverse weather conditions and today was one of those days for sure with lightning.

Once the storm cleared you have the option to go out and resume your round which was possible today.

This is the policy and it has been applied consistently over many years.

To help you in future please become aware of the 2026 conditions of play. Decisions are not taken lightly or in an ad-hoc manner.

As for players in today’s competition, 25 went out and were rewarded for a ball for their entry with 13 players actually finishing their round two of which were awarded prizes (minimum comp size is 5) . The 7 players who got a free game next week paid their entry fee but didn’t go out. On checking these 7 actually started and will receive a ball.

Can’t do much about the carts as they were actually used. However, if anybody who paid for a cart today and feels financially burdened by this decision as they only played a few holes then I am prepared to let them have use of the cart for free Thursday week.

They are to inform Colin Booth, Veterans Co-ordinator, at collybooth@gmail.com and he will confirm who is to get this compensation and inform the starters.

Unexpected weather always causes issues so thank you for your understanding and forbearance.
