Mal Garratt: The Man, The Cart, The Legend.

You know you’ve made it at Jamberoo when your golf cart has its own postcode—and Mal Garratt’s cart? It’s practically heritage listed.

Everyone noticed Mal when he rolled in with his newly acquired chariot, polished to showroom shine and chauffeur parked in its own personal cart house. Not just any shed—this one had air conditioning, mood lighting, and a nightly temperature check to ensure optimal comfort for Mal’s morning pickup.

He wanted Toyota badges on it. The Board said no. Not because it wasn’t a good idea—just because they couldn’t afford the prestige.

Back then, when Al Thrower started sharing a cart with Mal. It was like applying for a visa. You had to be someone special and Al was someone special not only looking after the Ferrari but also assisting Mal in constantly beating his old adversary Ronnie Hewson . “Al became Golfing buddies, mentor and tactician  Al even trained the Jamberoo Kookaburras to time there laugh at the appropriate time when Ron three puttered

Mal had all the ladies spellbound. Mal’s cart wasn’t just transport—it was status. It was swagger. It was a rolling bachelor pad with turf tyres.

He now claims his cart has clocked more miles than his beloved Toyota. And last week, I caught him sniffing sawdust on the 5th tee.—just Mal researching renewable energy. He reckons if he can convert eucalyptus mulch into fuel, he’ll have the first carbon-neutral cart in the Southern Hemisphere.

Mal Garratt: part golfer, part innovator, full character. May his cart run forever and may we all be lucky enough to get a ride in those plush leather seats.
