Nominations closed yesterday with some positions on the Board yet to be filled due to the upcoming retirement of 2 Directors. It is not to late to stand however!
If you are interested in having a say in the direction of the club and are willing and prepared to stand then you should approach Club President Phil Hahn personally or via the Club Office where information will be given on how you can proceed.

Presidents Report 2024 – 2025

Another eventful year has passed and there is plenty to report on. Yes, there has been more flood events over the past membership year, but they pale in comparison to the April 2024 event. That said a considerable part of our current membership year has necessarily involved staff time and money cleaning up the mess and repairing the damage from the floods that ended our 2023/24 membership year.
As our audit report will reveal, the club has recorded a modest profit of $10,102 while membership numbers declined by 32 from 575 to 543.
The Champagne 9 continues to go from strength to strength; Well done Pam and all those who assist with this fantastic initiative
Some thank you’s from me that are all truly deserved:
Firstly, thank you to my Board for their commitment and contribution in 2024/25. In particular, Sylvia Karschies, who has declined to re-nominate and Dave Ransom who retired from the Board in March of this year but still continues to contribute.
A number of new Directors joined the Board following the last AGM Peter Hackett as Captain, Joel Young as Treasurer, Jake Henderson as Secretary, Sylvia Karschies, and Stef Tinworth. For various reasons only Jake and Sylvia saw out the year. Unfortunately, Sylvia is unable to renominate for the coming year but thank you for your whole hearted effort and being prepared to jump in and do whatever was necessary whether it was minute taking, bar work, purchasing. Sylvia has been the go-to person to get things done. I am sure Sylvia will be back and contributing again down the track. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for Joel, but we were very fortunate to pick up Paul Henderson during the course of the year to take over the Treasurer role. John Auguston joined us quite recently and I am looking forward to working with John.
Peter Hackett started the year as our Captain and was doing a great job so we were sorry to lose him so early in his tenure. Thanks to Larry for stepping back into that role. We were also unfortunate to lose Stef Tinworth from the Board. Stef’s knowledge and experience as a Project Manager made him a valuable contributor to many of our Board discussions.
To all our Board members throughout the reporting year thank you for all the good ideas, healthy debate, and good humour and for shouldering a share of the workload. Ladies President Pam Middlebrook, while sitting outside the Board, continues to regularly attend our Board meetings as a guest and is a wonderful contributor to those meetings and to the Club in general.
Nick and team, keep up the good work, you do a wonderful job with limited staff and resources compared to the bigger clubs in the region. Linda, Marie, and Joan, thanks for another year of fine back-of-house work, maintaining the books, paying the wages and accounts, managing memberships and competitions, and implementing new software, to name a few. Additionally, Mandy does an excellent job with the cleaning, as does Tara with the carts.
Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Jamberoo Golf Club – gardens, working bees, flood cleanups, grant applications, and in particular our shop volunteers, where Peter Young is the glue that holds it all together. Thank you all for your selfless service. I also acknowledge the dedicated service of Phil Lewis and Bruce Hammond, who have retired from their shop volunteer roles. A big welcome to Steve Wicks who has taken over the Sunday shifts. Steve is proving to be a great pick up contributing to other areas and is working with Marie to cover gaps in competition management.
Thanks also to Sue Paul, who continues to contribute in her role as Footgolf Coordinator and in numerous other ways. There are many others who contribute to the Clubs operations. Thank you all.
My apologies if I have overlooked anyone.

Sadly, we again lost a number of members or former members – Glynn Godfrey, Colin Cuthbertson, Pat Lawrence, and Marg Potter. All will be sadly missed. My apologies if I have missed anyone.
Audit Report
A net Profit of $10,102.
At first glance this might seem disappointing following on from such a large profit in 2023/24 ($212,087) which was a real outlier. To put this year’s result in some perspective the two years prior to that we recorded losses of $30-$40K. Additionally, our revenue for 2024/25 has held up quite well and the shortfall is more to do with increases in expenditure.
Members
Membership numbers (472 in 2017, 464 in 2018, 428 in 2019, 398 in 2020, 536 in 2021, 561 in 2022, 518 in 2023 and 575 in 2024) have seen a small decline to 543 as of 31 May 2025.
One target of our member retention program is to assist our older members with a loyalty discount. Anecdotally, this appears to be working effectively with our older members (80 years and over who have been continuous members for ten or more years) getting a sizeable discount, so that renewal is hopefully less of a “will I or wont I, I hardly play anymore” decision. The decision to end or continue this loyalty discount is a matter for the Board to review each year, but it has been continued for 24/25.
My congratulations to our men and ladies champions and representative teams for their participation and the manner in which they represent our club (details below in the reports of our Captain and Ladies President).
The 24-25 Year in Summary
- Financial result of $10,102
- Member numbers down 32 TO 543
- The rebuild of the 16th retaining wall and associated works is all but complete and should be back in play in the very near future.
- The Staged DA is now close to completion. Importantly, staged DA approval will also tick a necessary box for grant funding applications.
- Club Jamberoo have referred the preparation of a new lease agreement for the 4th hole and practice area to their solicitors and a new ten-year lease will come into effect from 1 October 2025.
- Significant tree pruning and removal and stump grinding removal has been undertaken with more to come.
- Three new carts were purchased by the Club as well as some new cart leases.
- The loyalty membership discount for those members over 80 years of age who have been members for 10 or more years has been continued.
- Works Compound Crib Room and Office have been rebuilt.
- A new tractor mounted spray unit has been purchased.
- Deck Heaters have been purchased and installed.
- Storm damage from April 2024 (in particular) has been largely remedied including repairs to the 12th toilet, the bore pump on the 10th, and the removal of an enormous amount flood debris all at the Clubs expense. There is still plenty more to do particularly with paths, signs, and other infrastructure repair or replacement.
The Year Ahead
- Our top priority needs to be getting the staged DA completed and lodged. While this is largely in the hands of our consultants, its importance can’t be underestimated. It needs to be comprehensive, as it is the vehicle to undertaking works across the course in compliance with regulatory obligations. It is essential to getting grant applications past 1st base.
- A DA is also being prepared for the Club’s Street front section of the rental property on Allowrie Street.
- Completion of works on the 16th (Removal of the surface weed, installation of aerators, residual turfing and installation of a balustrade).
- Works to replace the 6th bridge crossing of Hyams Creek is subject to getting the staged DA approval from Council. This will be a new higher-level bridge which will be less prone to catch logs and exacerbate flood impacts.
- We are working with Council (thanks to Gareth Ward for facilitating) to achieve a zoning change from C3 (Environmental Management) to hopefully R2 (Private Recreation). Currently this highly restrictive C3 zone applies to over 90% of the course.
- Work has started on the political machinations necessary to advance our prospects of grant funding success. Our project funding eligibility options are very limited due to the lack of approved DA’s which will hopefully be resolved in the near future with the submission of and approval for the works covered in the Staged DA.
- More generally, our focus needs to remain on flood-related repair and improvement of the course and revenue-related aspects associated with the club house facility as we drive to attract new members and encourage the return of former members, which will improve revenues and underpin the future success of the Club.
- For compliance and insurance reasons we also need to lodge “retrospective” DA’s for the 1st and 8th bridges.
Captain’s Report 2024 – 25

A Role Revisited
At last year’s AGM, I stepped aside as Captain to make way for fresh ideas and new energy. A few months later, I was asked to take on the Vice-Captain role, which I gladly accepted.
When our Captain had to step down shortly after, I was again asked to lead the club – and once again, I stepped up with pride, ready to meet the challenges ahead.
Support Makes All the Difference
I’ve been incredibly lucky to have the support of David Ransom, whose experience and dedication are unmatched. His guidance has made my return to the role much smoother, and I thank him sincerely.
Pennant Season Highlights
This year, we proudly fielded teams in:
• B Grade
• C Grade
• Two White Horse Cup teams
Led by Chris Lecky, David Ransom, Col Booth, and myself, each team showed heart and determination throughout the season.
Special mention:
David Ransom’s C Grade team lost only one game out of 12 and claimed the C Grade Pennant – a brilliant achievement that sets the standard for the future.
Battling the Elements
It’s been a tough year weather-wise.
High winds, heavy rain, and flooding caused fallen trees and forced course closures.
Through it all, our greens staff, led by Nick, have done a stellar job. Despite limited resources, they:
• Cleared fallen trees
• Trimmed and removed stumps
• Maintained course playability
Their work has made a noticeable difference – thank you, team!
A New Gold Course
In collaboration with Golf NSW, we now offer a Gold Course layout – designed to better support our women golfers while also being available for men. This addition enhances inclusivity and expands playing options for all members.

Women’s President’s Report 2024-25
Pam Middlebrook (JGC Women’s President)
What an exciting and successful year it has been! The highlight was our Silver Pennant Team winning the 2025 season. At the presentation of the Silver Perpetual Banner, Jamberoo was congratulated by the WGI committee for nominating 4 teams and being a very competitive club. All the Silver team members were recognised: L Kuskey, M Cook, J Anderson, G Rutledge, J Burke, J Strong, S Dixon, J Gray.
Members of all the Pennant Teams must also be thanked for representing our Club in such a positive manner. In particular we appreciate the commitment and dedication of the captains: A Van Woerkom (Gold), L Kuskey (Silver) and C Smee (Bronze Magpies) and K Oborn (Bronze Rosellas). Thank you also to the players and other members who helped ‘Host’ on our home rounds. There were logistical problems due to the closure of the 16th and 17th holes, but our two-course lunch lifted the spirits.

Club Person for 2024 was L Cram. Lorraine did a sterling job of running the Women’s Vets for many, many years and her contribution to the Committee is truly appreciated.
The WGI Events
3-day Tournament: L Kuskey won the WGI Trophy; A Van Woerkom & J O’Brien won the 36-hole Div.1 and 2 Nett prizes.
The Team Challenge: Five teams entered – the most of any club. Jamberoo was in the winners list for both Division 1 and Division 3.
Pennant’s Opening Day (hosted by Jamberoo): Over 120 people attended. Marquees were erected to extend seating. Only a late thunderstorm dampened the occasion.
Vets Week of Golf & Open Days
Kew: Eight women competed with almost all in the winner’s circle.
Seaside & Valley: B and C Costello won the final day.
Central West: four women represented the Club.
‘Champion of Champions’ (Manly): A Van Woerkom represented Jamberoo.
Mollymook Open (3-day event): K Brennan won Division 2.
Charity Days
Nowra Gala Day: P Middlebrook, G Rutledge and H Wainwright – winners.
Kiama’s Health Charity: P Middlebrook, G Rutledge, C Smee and S Carter – winners
The Grange ‘Biggest Morning Tea’: Jamberoo team were Gross Runners-Up.
These events are well supported by our members, showcasing Jamberoo’s strong spirit and help to raise our profile.
Financial Overview
We have had a very successful financial year.
Lunch funds raised were used to pay for sleeveless vests for the winning Silver Pennant Team ($471.35) and will also fund new Pennant shirts for 2026.
A water purifier for the verandah has been budgeted.
The Pancreatic Cancer Charity Day raised $3,011.75 and was featured on Win News.
The Community Cancer Link Charity Day raised $1,800.
“Get Into Golf for Women” (November clinic) made $1,615 with 15 graduates.
“MyGolf” Program with Jamberoo Primary School was successful, thanks to G Wilson, C Smee, L Southwell, J O’Brien, and P Middlebrook. $1,200 grantwas received.
Champagne 9 green fees contribution this year was $8,720.

This competition continues to grow in its fourth year and has sustained the test of time with over 90 golfers attending this year. It has led to new memberships and has contributed to increased numbers playing in the mixed and 18-hole competitions.
Special Gatherings
S Walsh’s 90th Birthday (Nov 2024): was celebrated with appearances from T Ogill, and a special performance by G Boxsell.
D Piper’s 90th Birthday (June 2025): was gratefully appreciated by her family.
Memorial Ceremony for Margaret Potter (our long-term member): it was a fitting tribute on the verandah of our Golf Club.
