Monday News from the Course

Bruce Hammond honoured.

Jamberoo legend Bruce Hammond has given up his Sundays for the past 20 odd years to benefit the membership by volunteering to work in our shop from dawn to dusk. His contribution has been most appreciated by one and all and with his recent retirement from his duties the membership have wished to honour Bruce.

In a special ceremony today Bruce was presented with a new golf bag adorned with a club badge and the words, “Bruce Hammond, Jamberoo Legend“.

Thank you Bruce.

All members wish you a long retirement, playing golf and using your new bag to tote your clubs with pride!

2025 Jamberoo Veterans Champion Crowned.

Today saw the playing of the 2025 Jamberoo Veteran Golfers Championship. 63 players in total turned up to play in the shotgun start under clear skies and with great course conditions.

The scoring was great with several players breaking their handicap to put their name forward to win the Championship or the Veterans Winter Medal and Nett Championship trophy.

In the end Craig Foster played a brilliant round, shooting a gross score of 70, to retain his championship.

Well played Craig.

For the Winter Medal and nett winner it was very close with Phil Hahn 63 nett,  Peter Francis 64 nett,  Peter Hackett 65 nett, Colin Harris 65, Gary Brickell 65 nett, Mal Hoy 65 nett, Philip Thompson 67 nett and Brian Aboozaid 67 nett all registering great scores.

In the end though Ray Sheehan managed an excellent 62 nett to claim the Medal and the trophy.

For those Vets who didn’t wish to play in the stroke round or who were visitors or non-Jamberoo Vet members, a medley Stableford was held as is the usual case on a Monday.

Again the scoring was great and two players had excellent scores of 42 points and a countback was required to determine the overall winner. Andrew Ransom ended up successful over Jeff Draper with Pat Travers next best with 39pts with Timothy Reilly and Geoff MCKAY next best with 37pts.

President Phil Hahn gives a report on the works on the Course.

With the work on the 16th coming to its conclusion President Phil Hahn explained to members the final details that are needed to finish this most impressive work. Grass is to be purchased to cover the exposed dirt in front of the green, either a hedge or fence to make the new work safe and secure, new boarding for the bridge and 2 fountains to aerate the dams in front of the 16th green and 17th tee are also to be purchased. Pat’s mud slide will be shaped when it dries to make contours and little mounds.

All stumps on the course have been identified and will soon be ground down and the two dead trees on 18 have been felled. The planned tree removal and replacement will continue.

On the last Friday morning of each month it is planned that Jamberoo Members can get involved with a Working Bee to be held to help with various improvements around the course. Further info will follow at a later stage.

Tree stumps and ground down areas.

Tree stumps are an integral part of the course and no free relief is allowed. Once completed and the ground down tree stump areas are back in play no free relief is given.

The areas around recently felled trees may have several holes and tractor tracks however, and relief not nearer the hole (and within one club length of full relief) may be taken.
