News from the Course – 7 April

Course News.

by David Ransom

The 4th green has not taken well to the extra wear and tear caused by its double use during the round. It was the green hurt the hardest from the January heat wave and water shortage and our green keepers have fertilised it in the hope it may recover to its usual condition. It needs more time to recover.

Also Members have asked why not play 18 holes again instead of the 16 used Saturday and Monday? The question was, “How do you do this causing the least interruptions to play?”

It has been decided that on Tuesday and Wednesday we will play 1-15, then 18, then 1 and finish on 18 as a trial. Score the second time on 18 in the place of 4A using the hole rating of 4A.

Further at today’s greens meeting it was determined that a temporary green in front of the dam on the 16th hole will be created and used. From there a new forward tee will also be used to play the 17th hole. This new arrangement will be in force until the new work is completed. Hopefully this will be available from this Saturday 12 April.

Green Renovations.

Our greens will get a much needed renovation this week with a full coring and sanding.

The front nine will be out of play as soon as the last comp group passes on Wednesday 9th and on Thursday 10th. Social games will be held on the back nine on these days.

The back nine will be out of play on Friday 11th. Social play will be played on the front nine. A temporary green will be in place on the 4th hole for this day.

New procedure for the toilet near the 12th Tee.

Rod Hodkinson has upgraded our lock and key on the toilet near the 12th tee. He has added cable to make the chance of losing the key less likely. Please do not wrap the cable around the key. Just position the key on the hook inside the lock box and locate the cable in the slot provided on the left hand side.

Due to some vandalism Rod has also changed the code. It is now the first 4 numbers of our phone number, 4236 (it is no longer 0404).

The damage caused will also be repaired.

Great to see Fauna return to the course.

Some Eastern Water Dragons have again been spotted near the creek on 18. A great sight to see them sun themselves and dive into the water when you get too close.

The crows however are back and are taking golf balls, especially yellow ones.

And those noisy Corellas are at it again digging up fairways in search of an easy meal.

Our favoured Kookaburras are still about as well!

Members helping out.

The entrance to the compound has had a very large pot hole which makes it a safety hazard for our green staff and volunteers in the early morning and at dusk while carts and equipment are moved.

The ever energetic Rod Hodkinson has made repairs, with the help from Mike Harris and Les Skarratts after Bob Neilson prepared the area.

The only question that remains is, “Who does it look like?”

Footgolf Action.

A great welcome was given to ‘Kells the Lawyers’ in their footgolf bonding day held recently at the club. The players appreciated the friendly assistance of Sue and starter Greg with the shotgun start.

The Walking Bridge on the 6th was out of service after last week’s floods. Players were directed to use the larger bridge that crosses over on the 8th.

I believe repairs to the pathway have been made and it is now back in use.
