Thursday News from the Course

Match Committee News.

by Larry Kent on behalf of Match Committee.

As we know the 4th green has had some issues since early January. New grass has been laid on the bare patches which will eventually assist its recovery. The green is presently showing a lot of wear and tear because of its small surface area and its use twice during rounds.

I am informed by the greenkeeper that fertilizer has been applied to the green which is giving it a burnt off appearance and it will green up and recover quickly with watering.

With the new work on the 16th hole expected to be completed in a few weeks or sooner it is determined that all club competitions and social games be played over 16 holes and finish on the 18th. This will hopefully protect both the 1st and 4th greens from overuse.

This will apply from this Saturday. The cost of a competition round will remain at $16 but the ‘in conjunction 4BBB’ will be included in this fee.

Jungle shrub removed from the second.

The shrub near the second green has been removed. Many golf balls were found in its domain!

  1. After playing golf on Saturday 5 th I realise why Nick and Green Staff are trying to protect the 4 th green ( we should all be grateful for Nick and his teams efforts in producing a top line course for us to play on)….I would like to know, as many others are talking about, why we still could not play 18 holes? For example replay 1st and 18 th ( still par 67) or replay 5 th and 9 th ( par 66)? These holes seem to be in better condition than the 4 th.

    1. Hi Ron,
Both of these options were seriously considered but the extra interference created on both 18 and 5 seem not to be worth it. I believe the work will be finished shortly and then we can resume playing 18 holes.
