Safety on the Course.

by David Ransom

Recently there have been a spate of reports of players hitting up on groups in front of them, whether on the same hole or adjacent thereto.

With some short par 4’s and with fairways running parallel to other fairways at Jamberoo if you hit a ball off line then you must call out “FORE” to give other players fair warning.

Please wait till the players ahead are out of your range as well.

We all get frustrated by what we perceive as slow play but that is no excuse for endangering other players and given the average golfers ability to control their shots we should be prepared to give warning of an errant ball.

Two recent incidents on the 4th and 8th holes were very near misses for example. Both were the result of long hitters teeing off when the group in front was within range and only on one of those holes was a warning given a few seconds before the ball landed.

Club members and guests are reminded of their responsibilities in regards to safe play and their liability in regards to impatient and reckless play. There is the potential of being charged with “Criminal Negligence” if hitting up on a group that is clearly within your potential range and an injury arises.

Please take care.

This Wednesday is the March Bonus Day.

The Wednesday Stableford this week with the Just Bathrooms Mystery 9 in conjunction will see the playing of the March Bonus Day.

Larger prizes will be allocated and more prizes will be awarded.

Good luck!

  1. In regards to hitting up on groups in front, I have seen on numerous occasions on the 9 th hole people not waiting until the 9 th hole is completely clear. Even when using designated pathways, groups should really wait until group in front is adjacent to 10 th tee. Suggest signage “Do not hit off until group in front is clear and on 10 th tee” or something similar. We all misdirect tee shots on occasions and it would be devastating if someone is hit accidentally.
