Veteran Golfers Celebrate.
The Monday Veterans Annual Hams Day and Christmas party was held at the club yesterday.
The Veterans summer medal was presented to Colin Harris (accepted by Chris Costello on his behalf due to Col being in WA).
Our successful Trevor Bell Memorial Shield team were congratulated.
The special Veterans award, the Barry Walker Shield was presented.
For each stableford event held on the Monday Veterans days Lance recorded each player’s stableford score. Taking the sum of their top 20 scores, the top 4 players will receive a $30 prize, courtesy of the NSWVGA. This year the scoring was very close with Ian Lewis, 591 points, Brian Aboozaid, 592 points, Gary Eagleton, 594 points and William Perry 600 points.
William Perry wins the Barry Walker Shield for 2024.
Club President, Phil Hahn, spoke on the many things happening at the club and answered many questions concerning the status of the bridge on 6, the progress of the development of the new design of the bank in front of the 16th green, the continued trimming/clearing of trees from the ‘playing lines on tees’ , the new sign soon to be erected near the first tee, the construction of new facilities for our staff in the works compound by loyal club man, John Anthony, and the purchase of 3 new golf carts which will assist us meet the demand from members and social clubs.
He thanked the efforts of Lance Fredericks and Col Booth in the running of our Veterans and Trevor Bell Shield and Dave Ransom for the organisation of the Hams, Xmas function and golf related activities.
It was lovely to see so many of our members stay behind to enjoy each other’s company, the Xmas spirit together, and the ‘burnt offerings’ from the BBQ!
Today the field was divided into 3 divisions and as expected you had to score pretty well to win one of the Hams!
Division 1 Ham winner was Bill Morris with 38 points on a countback from Craig Foster.
Division 2 Ham winner was Jeff Draper with 39 points on a countback from Rod Hodkinson.
Division 3 Ham winner was Mark Crampton with 43 points, with Phil Thompson second on 40 points.
Lidia Waine won the Medley Stableford with 31 points on a countback from Ray Orr.
If you missed out on the course there was a chance to win one in the raffle. If not a Ham, then several of the other prizes on offer.
Here are the lucky Raffle winning players:
Ham – Ray Sheehan
Knob of Ham – Peter Munro and Geoff Reid
A Bottle of Red wine from the Ransom cellar – Don Thompson and Peter Hackett
Box of Chocolates – George Goor, Col Booth and Tim Reilly.
Merry Christmas to all of our vets. Looking forward to another great year in 2025!!
Teeing Off on Time.
Enjoy waiting on the third tee for the green to clear?
It is almost a certainty that the reason is because your group hitoff before their designated tee time.
Don’t go early just because the group in front has crossed the bridge. If you go early then it is quite possible that you will have 3 groups on the first hole at once.
This will cause waiting on the second tee and then the ‘members meeting’ on the third tee.
Wait for your tee time.
Remember to play ‘Ready Golf”.
SLOW PLAY IS SELFISH PLAY
Be ready to play when it is your shot and walk quickly between shots.
Your group should keep up with the group in front. If your group falls more than a hole behind, or you are searching for a lost ball, you should call the players behind to play through.
Size up your shot as you walk to your ball. Don’t overuse measuring devices especially close to the green.
Pick up as soon as you cannot score in par or stableford.
In Mens stroke competitions we have a local rule that states that the maximum score on any hole is a 9. Once you have had your ninth shot pick up and record a 9 next to the hole played. Don’t continue playing that hole.
Cheers and best wishes!
