Veterans News 2 December 2024

Seaside & Valley Veterans Week of Golf.

This event was played at Jamberoo and Kiama Golf Clubs in the week ending 29 November.

Monday was a single stableford at Jamberoo with a similar event at Kiama on Tuesday and Thursday. The week finished at Jamberoo on Friday with a 4BBB stableford with separate divisions for two women, two men and mixed. 129 players registered for the week with not all playing the full four days. 42 golf clubs from NSW, ACT and Qld were represented. Field sizes at Jamberoo were Monday 111 and Friday 66. There were a number of withdrawals on Friday for a number of reasons.

The weather gods were with us with Monday being a beautiful fine day, heavy rain falling on Tuesday as the last group left the 18th green. Thursday was fine and the Friday shotgun start field played thru patches of light showers with heavier rain setting in as players were returning to the Club.

Jamberoo was well represented with some of our members featuring in the prizewinners list.

I would like to thank the Tournament sponsors for their very much appreciated support. Also to Jeff Lynch, the Tournament Director from Kiama who was involved for the first time after an 11 year stint from Bob Smith. Bob assisted Jeff throughout the week making it a much easier transition.

Thank you also to the volunteers who turned up to do spotting on the creek crossings, start the field from the two tees on Monday and Allan Wight who cooked the BBQ both days. In addition I must mention Lyn Kuskey, Lorraine Cram and Robyn Gregson who turned up early each day to provide tea and coffee with scones, jam and cream for the players. Lorraine also assisted with serving the BBQ each day. Thanks to Marie and Dave Ransom for their work on Monday to get the scores in.

Overall it was a very successful week.

  1. Hi Dave,

Perhaps mention in upcoming events the TEACHERS GOLF DAY on the 27th of December, which is organised by the Thursday afternoon blokes who, with this event, bring a big field of players and considerable money to the club in one morning.
I suspect there will be a lot of Xmas folk wanting to play on that day so notification to locals and visitors may be a diplomatic awareness to all.
